Drop on Pirates vs. Drop on Splash Mountain

THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! I'm sitting here thinking either I'm in the Twilight Zone, or something is up with my computer (new,2 months).

I'm so glad to hear I'm not crazy or something. People are quoting people who are AFTER them in the post. do-do-do-do, do-do-do-do...........
Hehe, I think the DIS has entered into it's own version of the Twilight Zone.

Can't quite follow this thread, but I would compare pirates to the Norway ride in Epcot instead of to Splash. You notice it, but there is really nothing to it.

About 35 feet difference.

Splash has an appx. 40 foot drop (4 stories)

Pirates has an appx. 5 foot drop.

Not that I've been over there with a measuring stick, but you get the idea. The drop on pirates is a mere bump compared to splash.

HTH!

Splash Mountain is a 5 story drop, and pirates is a 14ft drop. That may not be the vertical measurement, but that is the reported measurement of the track from top to bottom, that's the measurement they count, and a 5 ft drop is nothing, you can totally feel the difference between 5 and what you feel at PotC.

"Hop a hollowed-out log to follow Brer Rabbit's mischievous escapades as he tries to flee the clutches of Brer Fox and Brer Bear until you plunge five stories off Chick-a-pin Hill! "It's the truth. It's actual. Everything is satisfactual. It's a zip a dee doo dah day!" " -from Disneyworld.com

Sorry if anyone misunderstood me in my original post but I NEVER intended on taking my 14-month-old on Splash! In fact I am not even planning to take DS3 even if he is 40" at the time because I am uneasy about him not being strapped in. I will be taking him on BTMRR if he is tall enough. If not we will parent swap that one!

Thanks everyone for easing my mind about the angle of the drop. I know some people posted that the drop is actually shorter in length than stated on the website I saw, but supposedly that woman (in "Anita Answer") only answers people's questions based on facts about WDW. So I would think her lengths of the drops posted are accurate. But if the angle is only half of what it is on Splash that makes a huge difference!

Gotcha, Bonnie :thumbsup2

I hate, hate, hate drops. I won't ride Splash Mtn., but I love PotC. That's as much of a drop that I can handle, and it is almost to much for me. My daughter calls it a small slide, not a drop.

Drops terrify me. Pirates doesn't phase me though, it just catches you off guard because it's in the dark. It's not a huge drop by any means!

I get horrible motion sickness, and so I can't go on Splash Mountain but I have absolutely no problem with Pirates. In fact, I love Pirates! :)

I knew some people who worked on PoTC during my CP and yes they do have about the same length of the drop, however the angle is MUCH less steep. It all about the angles.

icouldn't recall a drop on potc either , unlike at paris where there is a decent descent

You couldprobably "google" a picture of the Splash Mtn drop The two drops are like comparing apples to oranges.

After reading numerous websites this seems to be the common consensus...

Splash Mountain's drop is about 52 feet long and drops 5 stories at a 47 degree angle, whereas Pirates drop is also about 52 feet long but only drops 14 feet at a 21 degree angle.

The drop in Pirates @ WDW is nothing, almost an afterthought. Pirates @ Disneyland has 2 drops, the first fairly big and the 2nd much smaller ( still bigger than WDW).
But even then, those 2 drops don't even get near the drop in Splash Mountain. I think you will be fine going on Pirates. Enjoy your voyage in peace.

Are you sure that info about the Pirates drop isn't about the one at Disneyland? Now the first drop on that Pirates, which I've ridden hundreds of times, I can believe is 52 feet long and drops you down 14 feet.

I just can't believe that little itty-bitty dip (which to me felt like it was maybe five feet long) at the WDW Pirates is 52 feet long and you drop down 14 feet. Even what some people call the "third drop" at the Disneyland Pirates (at the very end of the ride) seems longer than the dip at WDW's Pirates. I just don't get it............very confusing............I would think that if I was going downhill for 52 feet at a 21 degree angle, I would notice it. Especially me because I'm not a fan of drops.:confused3

(I'm not trying to pick on you Melora. :thumbsup2 I know you were just posting what info you found out doing a little research. I'm just perplexed about it. There must be something wrong with me.:rolleyes1 )

HI
I checked several places again and each one seems to agree that the drop at WDW is 52 feet as well. It is a definite drop, no doubt about it. I think the one at Disneyland FEELS bigger though.

I don't like drops either (AT ALL) and every time I go on pirates I have to take a deep breath because even though it isn't a big deal I still get just a tad nervous. (No wonder I don't do Splash Mountain!).

How many times have you ridden Pirates in WDW? I think when you go again, you might surprised just how long it really it is. WDW doesn't have the second drop like Disneyland which is listed as 37 feet long (same angle) and feels like a teeny little hiccup to me.

I'll join the club of not remembering a drop or is it new? I last went nearly 4 years ago and believe that the ride has been re-vamped since then.

I don't remember a drop on WDW's Pirates either. I remember a tiny little dip, for lack of a better word. My kid's slide in our back yard is more thrilling.

ok ill put my thought on it, i havent been in a while ( 5 Yrs ) but i do remember the drop at pirates..i remember it because i remember it not being as big as i remember from when i was younger :rotfl2: but it is there, so i can picture it being the 52 ft in length but only 14 ft drop at 21 pitched angle. when you really really think about it..its an okay drop, and if you sit in certain places you can get a tiny bit wet ( and i mean tiny bit) now since the rehab has it changeD? maybe ..again i havent been there in 5 years oh well i will find out in about 2 months
