Hi,
Is there an area to be dropped off from your own car at the Sth Harbor entrance?
We will be staying at RI Anahem Maingate but I am worried the walk will be too much for the children. So I was hoping that DH could drive us to the park and drop us off, then return the car to the hotel and hurry back on foot himself. Is this an option?

Also I read a recent review on Trip Advisor where the reviewer was mugged on the way back to the CCI. Is this a common occurance? It is not something I had previously worried about too much but now I am very worried.

Yes there is a very nice little dropoff lot just outside where the ART and Disneyland parking buses drop you off. As for the mugging, I guess it is possible but we have walked that street many times on our trips and never felt afraid, there are usually lots and lots of other people around. And honestly if you kids are like mine they will still have lots and lots of energy, it will be you and your dh who will want to get the car. :)

I think the PP is talking about the "15 Minute Parking Area" which you can find in this map:

As for mugging, I would say that Harbor Blvd next to Disneyland is one of the safer places you could possibly be. If it was the middle of the night and no one was around, I could see that. Maybe. But that area is a pretty safe place - one of the safest in Southern California I would guess. And your secondhand report of a mugging is the first I have ever heard of on Harbor Blvd in many years. If it was common it would be well known. It is not common.

Hi, thanks very much for the replies.
It is good to know there is a drop off area.

This is the exert fromTrip Advisor ( posted 21Sep10 against the CCI reviews)

".............. I didn't want to put anyone out of their way so I walked back to the hotel after the show to get my own car and go and pick up my family. I'm glad that I was alone because on the walk back, I was mugged. Thank goodness all I had in my wallet at the time was about 5 dollars. .........."

It apparently in the middle of the night after park closing.
It is the first I have heard of mugging in ths area also, so I will try and not worry about it any more.

Hey a fellow Kiwi... Not too many of us here..

First we have been three times now and have never felt unsafe on Harbor... It is really well lit and lots of people, even 30 minutes after the park officially was closed...

Second, don't forget that in the US they drive on the other side of the road and there is no turn into the drop off point from the side you will be on so you will have to drive past Disneyto Ball Rd (can't Uturn at Manchester). It will probably take you twice the time to drive as it would to walk and you will only be saving half of the walk by doing this anyway... By the time you wait for DH to get back you will be delayed by maybe 20 minutes entering Disney... The Ramada Inn Maingate to the Crosswalk which is roughly where the drop off point is, is only a 5 minute walk.

WOW !!!! we walked down here many many times at all hours , well to about 12.30am anyway , and never once felt even remotely threatened !!

Ramada Inn Maingate ??? If so no need to drop off , will take you longer to drive than to walk . 7 mins max from room to front gates.

Hi,
It is actually the Residence Inn Anaheim Maingate.
Is that easily walkable for a 6 year ( plus a 60yr old Nana)?
Many thanks

Thats a little further, maybe 10 minute walk to the dropoff point, drive there will only be marginally longer than walking, the drive back to the hotel should be quite short though.. You will probably be delayed into Disney by 25 minutes while you wait for DH to get back after dropping you off.

It can be walked but is a bit of a hike. At least 3/4 of a mile or close to a mile - so 1.5 km in NZ. ;)

Hi,
Thanks for all the advice. It is good to know what our options are. We might find that everyone is okay with walking in the morning, but not for going back. Our kids can walk reasonble distances but I am very aware of how much distance is actually covered while in the parks on top of the walk there.

As far as the safety on Harbor Drive I took careful not of this on my trip last week.

I had once been told I was full of BS for saying it is safe because they are drug pushers, prositutes and panhandlers lining the street.

So last week I took extra careful note. Midweek 5 hours after the park closed I saw the dirtiest thing ever. An old lady collecting bottles and cans into a shopping cart at the corner of Harbor and Katella.

I also noted it surprising that there weren't more. There was gold in the bushes now and then and sticking out of trash cans. By gold I mean empty water bottles. This seems to indicate that they aren't allowed on Harbor, elsewise people would dig through those cans to pick those little nuggets up.
