Does Disney have any policies regarding drones? Would love to fly one to take pics of us. Guessing it might not be allowed off of the deck or verandah but maybe it is allowed at Castaway Cay?

I can't figure out how to delete this thread but I found the answer. No drones on ship or Castaway Cay!

No need to delete the thread. It is still interesting information for others!

I once read that one fo the issues with drones is the battery that is actually highly flammable. Everything that can be a fire risk is not allowed on cruise ships.

Too risky to crowded areas...
  • battery problems
  • inexperienced pilots
  • overwhelming number of wireless devices in the area that can cause interference

Despite the rule. I know I saw a video of a guy launching his from the deck of one of the ships while at Castaway Cay. I also found this neat one of a chase of the Dream. I also don't know the rules for this video either. Link.

I watched the video that was linked. Not going to lie that the pics were amazing but it really bothered me that something could get close to the ship like that. Anyone with bad intentions could wreak havoc with one of those things.

I also wonder about the security aspect of drones.

Love that video!!!

What it could be in regards to the video, is that there are any number of private companies, that use drones for advertising and inspection work, that it could have been hired by DCL. Considering what a helicopter would cost to hire vs a done, drones hands down would be a cheaper option.

But if that was sanctioned by DCL wouldn't they have insisted on their logo in the video at some point? I agree, it would be a great thing for them to do for promotional purposes because it's a really appealing point of view.

I'm not sure to be honest. I was trying to find the drone video from CC but couldn't find it. That one most likely would be a professional drone shoot. The chase coming out of PC, would be someone who has some experience but no affiliation with a production company. The only reason I thought of it is I saw a video of a technical rescue class on the battleship North Carolina. That one was done by a professional production company

Interesting concept! I wonder if DCL (or any cruise line) has considered buying a drone for outside hull inspection purposes. Recalling our Panama Canal cruise a few years ago and after passing through to the other side (this may have been at the next port, I just don't recall) the ship had put an inflatable in the water apparently checking damage to the hull, or at least the paint. A drone would be the perfect choice for something like this.
