Droid Incredible!

Watching threads like this very closely. I have 4 months left on my current Verizon contract, and I'm ready to throw my Blackberry out the window. Considering Droid Incredible on Verizon or switching to iPhone. Taking in as much info as I can....

Difficult decision to make.

If you have 4 months left on your Verizon Wireless contract, then you are eligible for an early upgrade. All this means is that at 20 months into your contract, you can upgrade your phone at no penalty (AT&T has a similar program).

I would suggest you go to your local Verizon Wireless store and look at the HTC Incredible. If you are interested in the phone, you can buy it with a 30 day money back guarantee. If, within the 30 day guarantee, you don't like the phone, you can return it (there is a small restocking free).

As I said in a previous post, I've had several smart phones. So far, the Incredible has been the best phone.

One word of warning, if I may. You may hate the Incredible for the first week or so because it so different from the Blackberry. Give it time. Same is true for iPhone users. My previous phone was an iPhone and when I got my Incredible, I wasn't sure about it. But now there is no way I would go back to the iPhone.

That's my two cents. Your mileage may vary.

Also...keep in mind that the new iPhone is supposed to come out next month.

Also....in anticipation of the newest iPhone being released, Walmart has lowered the price of the current model to $97.00.

Just something to consider.

I ordered my incredible 5/21 and I am impatiently awating delivery!!!!:confused3:confused3:confused3
BTW the Incredible has flash player and the iphone does not. I had the choice to make between waiting to see IF Verizon was getting the Iphone or getting the Incrdible and it was the Incredible that won out! Hope I am happy. I am just waiting for the FED EX truck to come rolling down my street.

I'm guessing Tamra loves it too.:rolleyes1

LOL!! Yes, she likes it when I have new toys and leave her alone for a few nights! :rolleyes1

You'll love it! I wanted an iPhone as much as anyone else, but this thing is awesome. I wouldn't have been disappointed in an iPhone, but AT&T wasn't an option for me. This phone (for me) is every bit as good and has a boat load of apps. Love it....ohh and the flash thing has already come in handy for me!

And it will be interesting to watch what happens in the Apple camp. All the major movie studios have recently made announcements that they will not be supporting HTML5, which is what Apple was hoping they would do. WIthout Flash, the iPhone will be severely crippled when it comes to video. Anyone want to guess if Apple will cave?

Yes. Thank you. I am aware of the early upgrade, but I did want to wait to check out the new iPhone and go head to head - phone to phone, plan to plan - and make that decision. I may end up going Incredible anyway because:
  • AT&T coverage is just so terrible in many areas of NYC
  • A number of tech reviews I've read have said the Incredible is so great, that it should make you not care about any future Verizon iPhone.

We shall see. I'm keeping my eyes open.

I've been convinced!!!! I was waiting to hear how people liked the Incredible and I am sold. So, I go to the Verizon website to order my new phone and it says it won't be shipped until June 22nd!!!!:sad2::sad2::sad2::sad2: I don't want to wait almost a month!!!! I made my decision and I want it now!!!! Hmmmm, might have to stop by the Verizon store and see if there are any in stock.

I adore my DInc - got it the first day it came out. So far I have over 200 apps on the phone and have five custom scenes - Work, Play, Home, WDW and Travel. I've got it linked to three of my email accounts and have all three phone numbers forwarded to it. I uploaded all my music, photos and threw in a few movies for good measure. I'm automatically downloading all my podcasts, streaming tv shows and listening to radio....and I still have about half of my SD card and internal memory available.

After only a month with this baby, I would be lost without it!!! Only two things are missing - eTicket and DIS Radio. I was able to find the feed for a couple other Disney radio stations really miss DIS Radio.

Best place by far to check out the apps available for the android platform is at appbrain.com. It lets you save the apps you want to download. Then when you get the phone, you install appbrain on the phone and sync it up. Voila!

And don't give up on the first Verizon Wireless store you go to if they don't have it in stock. My local store had none but another one just a few miles away had 22 in stock.

Have the store check inventory levels at other stores. You may get an employee who won't want to do that (they are paid on commission) so if they don't do it, call other stores yourself.

Appbrain is awesome. I can find apps while browsing on my laptop and it sync with the phone.

Can I ask you what you are using for podcasts and radio stations? I tried .podkast but I couldn't get through an entire disunplugged show without errors. Then you have to start the podcast over again. Disunplugged is over an hour. It was such a pain to get back to where I left off. Tried Iheartradio too. It doesn't work. I don't know if I have bad reception but it just hangs at "buffering" and never plays anything.

Skyfire is a great browser. I found it much easier to use than the dolphin browser. Plays video and you can bookmark pages easy and open more than one tab.
Battery life is my major issue! I haven't downloaded too many themes/wallpapers because I read that they eat up the battery.

....waiting patiently for eticket for the android market.

After a couple misses, I tookd the plunge and downloaded one that everyone was recommending on the Android Forums - DoggCatcher. I LOVE it!

I can add the feeds (including images) and customize how many shows to keep on the phone, how often to sync, when to delete, etc. Developer is working on utilizing the DInc's internal memory for file storage.

When I pause, it remembers where I'm at. I have mine set to never turn off so I have podcasts available with the touch of a button when I go to car mode.

For Internet radio, I'm using xiialive - it was the only one I found that could stream Disney content. You didn't ask, but I'm using MixZing for music and mVideoPlayer for video as well.

Was VZW able to transfer your address book from BB to HTC Incredible, or did you do it yourself in some way? I imagine that there will be some learning curve. I would just like to know that my contact info is easily transferred.

I had to do it myself, I uploaded it to my gmail then the droid was able to sync it. I'm fairly technical so it wasn't a problem.

I did the same when moving from my enV (although it was more manual), and I just maintain my contacts in gmail.

Favorite Droid app is the Youtube ripper. This app will actually rip the video from youtube and save it on your SD card so you can watch it anytime without wi-fi or even a 3G signal.
hand in hand with this app is the SD reader app that shows you your SD card's contents and allows you to open the folders and explore your memory.
Have Fun, The Droid is way way way out of the Iphone's league. A bumbling "networkless" Steve Jobs proved that at the 4G unveiling. Verizon will always beat the pants off AT&T, thats why I am soooo befuddled at the lack of the Eticket app from these guys! Why have they kept us waiting for so long?
Somebody please whack Corey in the back of the head and demand an Eticket app.. thanks
