Driving - your tips and thoughts

Right driving in america for first time.

Sure saw a thread before but cannot find, about what you can and cannot do when driving, that is different to the UK, like turning right at traffic lights when certain colour etc.

Can you give me your thoughts so can write it down and leave it in car.

Thoughts are, it's so easy so don't worry.
My first time driving there, about three years ago, it took me from the airport to the hotel to get used to things.

You'll be driving an automatic too which handles like a (big) go kart.

The rule you're talking about is at (most unless signposted otherwise) red lights you can turn right as long as the oncoming traffic is clear - a great law, wish we had it here in the uk (obviously for left turns).

Do you have any editions of the Brits Guide? A good chapter in there about car hire and driving

Don't pass the school buses when are stationary or about to stop. My hubby did this once and got pulled over by the sheriff

Also on the interstate you can overtake on both sides unlike our motorways.

We've always found the driving fairly relax. The locals must be use to all the tourist and seem very patient with us.

Ah that must have been where I read it - thanks - trouble is, I hid the book when my niece and nephew came to stay (before they knew) - have to go look for it, cannot even think where I hid it

Oh you don't stash things like I do then. I start by looking in the most ridiculous places first to save time You are far too logical for me! I wasn't kidding with those suggestions above (so you can laugh harder at me now). Those are examples of places where I HAVE put things so they won't be found (including often not being found by me which results in a storm through the house and loud complaining that things should be more organised ..... ). Glad you found it.

I think this is only if the buses lights are flashing, then you must stop in both lanes (the lane that the bus is in and the oncoming traffic).
