Driving without seatbelt

Exactly, exactly, exactly. There's no real reason NOT to wear a seatbelt, it's common sense to wear one. The reason that there are laws passed for things like this is because there are so many people who just don't use their common sense on a regular basis. Which is sad.

I'm sorry, but I'm pretty sure that my purse hitting the windshield is not going to have the same profound effect if a family member hit the windshield. So um, I'm not really sure why the whole projectile thing was introduced into this thread, but yeah, I'd be sad if my compact smashed and got powder all over my purse but... it's just not the same.

Wear your seatbelt! Yeesh!

IMO, A person's right to do whatever they feel like it ends when that choice affects others. Unrestrained passengers are a danger to other passengers in not only the same vehical, but as another poster told us from personal experiance (good god, that's horible to even read about, I can't imagine living through such a thing!), people in other vehicals as well...not to mention effects to family, EMS, doctors, nurses, and insurance rates.

I'm not arguing and don't need to, I'm being logical. There are too many here thinking with their emotions who feel the need to argue their point. If knew you were planning in deleting, I wouldn't have quoted you so I hope you dont feel pressured to respond.

I will ask you this, have you been there? Have you stood by the road and had a paremedic tell you that every place you have a cut (including a long gash down the side of my neck) would have been severed from your body had you not been wearing a seatbelt? I have and I have the scars to prove it

I dont much care for your logic when I have experienced something myself. I would rather trust my experience than your opinion

Uuumm, you are missing the point of this "arguement", I never once said seatbelts don't save lives, yours or someone elses. I don't need to have been saved by a seatbelt to know that what they are for and thats what they do

Statement #2: People who are unrestrained by seatbelts may become deadly human projectiles in the event of an auto accident.
Statement #3: Unsecured items may become deadly projectiles in the event of an auto accident.

I think all three are true; they're all reasonable statements of fact, yes?

I also have no idea why #3 should be brought into a discussion of whether or not we should have seatbelt laws unless the poster just wants us to remember not to have dangerous objects lying about our cars. (Note to self: start putting laptop case in back of car and start belting in heavy purse.)

I know this is probably rare, but there's a DISer who was paralyzed from the waist down in a car accident and she's said it was because she was wearing her seatbelt. Maybe she'll post. That said, I'm NOT saying don't wear a seatbelt; it's just anecdotal info I wanted to share.
