We are doing 3 nights at VB followed by 2 nights at SSR in February (yes, I know the pool is closed at Vero). I ran a mapquest for directions between the 2 resorts and it indicates I-95 to 528 as the primary route, but this looks a little out of the way. :confused3 Looking at the map, I would judge it to be faster to take I-95 to 192. 192 is not a highway, though. I know that sometimes the mapping websites favor highways so I was wondering what you experienced drivers thought was faster.

On the map, A is MCO, B is Vero Beach and C is SSR.

Thanks!

I haven't taken 192 but we did pop over to 523(?) from 512 on the way down from WDW last year. This was about 2 hours, two lane, and boy was the scenery less than exciting. It is basically in the middle of nowhere. On the way to the airport we took the I-95 route. There was a wreck and we got stuck there for about 2 hours. So I don't know if it is faster but at least you can drive faster. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I'll give you an additional suggestion.

Take FL 60 west from Vero to the Florida Turnpike (the green roadway on your Mapquest map). The Turnpike is 23 miles west of I-95. Then take the Turnpike North to Osceola Parkway (plainly marked), to WDW. Mapquest the specific directions because there are two quick turns as you get to LBV that take you right to SSR.

That should be much quicker than the roundabout way Mapquest is trying to send you.

As far as scenic beauty, unless you're a cattle rancher you won't find much to love in that section of Florida. It's just boring terrain. Sorry.

Your Mapquest map is pretty confusing as far as road numbers.

The ORANGE road running from Vero to Yeehaw Junction, and then over to Lake Wales is FL 60. FL 60 is two lane, but it's the main E-W road through that part of the state, and should be pretty good.

512 and 523 are just little state and county roads connecting small towns. The numerical designator for the Florida Turnpike is not shown on your map, but it's no big deal because the signs are distinctive and it's abundantly marked.

IS the pool closed at Vero? We are going Feb 25th and need a pool.

Thank you all for the responses!

From what I heard, it is supposed to reopen mid-February, so hopefully you'll be alright. You might want to call MS just to double-check.

Turn right onto A1A,
Turn left at light onto 510
Cross under I-95
Turn Left onto 512
Turn right onto 60 West towards Yeehaw Junction
Turn right at Yeehaw Junction onto Florida Turnpike (Toll Rd -green line on your map)
(There is a gas/truck stop at Yeehaw Junction just beyond the entrance to the turnpike on 60 for cokes, water, treats - there is not much to stop for on the TP)
Take Osceola Parkway towards WDW
Follow signs to SSR

Time = approx 2 hours

I thought that sounded like your trip, Dereka so I read the thread. . .I was wondering how far it was from Vero to WDW so thanks for asking your map question.

Ellen and Brian

PS - I know you find lots to do!! :thumbsup2

the hwy in the middle of FL is a toll road and it is always clear, 95 scares the heck out of me and is frequently backed up due to traffic and wrecks.

I always take the toll road. you do have to drive down to Vero (town) and then over, but it is worth it if 95 is heavy, and if you are there during Pres week, it will be.

We just went back and forth between Miami and WDW this week on the Turnpike. There is some construction going on between Yeehaw and WDW, but it looked like all of it was occurring between 9 PM and 6 AM. There was no work going on during the day on the way up, or early evening on the the way back. Whatever they are doing, it will probably be finished before your trip, although you could check the Florida Turnpike's website to be sure.
