I am thinking of driving from Mass to Fl, what kind of routine maintenance should I have done to my car before I go?

What should I take a long? AAA card, jumper cables, fix a flat? Im nervous......but flights are just super expensive.

I would think with a AAA membership you're in pretty good shape. If you have a mechanic you trust, tell them you're getting ready to make a long trip and to check your tires, oil, fluids, etc. Have fun :earsboy:

GPS
Cell Phone
Personal DVD player (lots of DVD's)
Shrimp
Cooler for beverages
Maps (if GPS doesn't work)

Check your tire pressure, get an oil change. Bring jumper cables, spare tire, fix a flat can, flashlight, and all that good stuff and say a prayer you won't need any of it. Get plenty of rest the night before. Don't drive sleepy. We always drive to Florida but it is only a 10-13 hour drive (depending where we are going) It isn't so bad, and with good conversation the time passed by rather quickly. Enjoy your trip.

If you are due for any fluid changes (oil, transmission, brake, etc) get it done. Make sure the tires have 2,500 miles (or whatever your round trip takes) left in them and are filled to the proper pressure. I'd make sure to have a flashlight in the car in case of a breakdown.

Other then that the AAA membership should take care of everything but make sure you have a car cord to charge your cell phone. If it is dead you will have trouble calling AAA.

We grew up in RI and MASS So hello:wave2: from PA

You may want to upgrade to a premium AAA membership. They will tow you anywhere up to 200 miles. That way if you were 200 miles from home or WDW you could go back or get to the AAA service station at the WDW gate for free. anything above that is on you but it is still a great deal. I always take it to our dealer ( we have a fair one so didnt need to switch machanics :) ) and tell them we are going - miles and need them to check breaks, belts, wiper blades, tires anything they think may need checking just to feel relaxed on the trip. Last trip we needed nothing :) They didnt even charge us for the look over!

If you have never drivien through Georgia the cops will be waiting for you at the state line:mad: and on the other side of every hill or turn. The speed drops dramaticly when you hit the state line. Last I knew they were about to pass a law that allowed them to charge you up to $900 a ticket for 10 miles over:scared1::scared1:. Calling it some form of reckless driving. Which is easy to do when they drop the speed limit by ten miles at the state line. We also saw about 15 cops off a ramp comming into Georgia. Nothing special going on, in the middle of nowhere. Obviously many jurisdictions participated to get that many cops. Dont get me wrong I dont mind patrolling the hiways for unsafe drivers but Georgia replaces taxes with tickets.

On our last trip to WDW from Illinois in Jan I saw more cops out in every state. I'm retired and in no hurry and usually go 5 over. This last trip I did the speed limit.

Make sure that the spare is properly inflated. And a lot of the "toy" tires carry 60 pounds pressure.
