Driving to WDW, will we need a golf cart?

Ok, our WDW vacation is not until 2009, but I am so exicted about it, I have already started planning. We have decided to stay at a cabin. There will be 6 of us, me, dh, and our four children. At the time of our vacation, kids will be 9, 5, 5, and 4. I have read several reviews from people advising driving to the parks instead of using the internal bus system, especially for character breakfasts. Since we will have our car, will we still want a golf cart? Can we fit 6 people on a golf cart? We know we want to do Hoop De Doo and Chip 'N Dale's campfire. Are they close enough to walk to without making tired kids even more grumpy?

This will be the children's first trip to Disney and my second. My only other trip was in 1988 for grad nite. DH has been several times when he was younger.

Thanks for any advice!

Need? No. Want? Maybe.

We always rent one for pleasure but not for necessity. There's an internal bus to take you to all the venues. For the parks, we have always taken the boat and/or bus, we never drive.

Depends on what site you get, I will post a layout of the campground for you. As for the carts I think they are one of the best things to do at the campground I have many!!!!!!

They are not necessary, but they are a heck of a lot of fun. If you don't mind paying for them, I 100% say get one, we get them all the time and they are a blast.

6 people is way pushing it on a golf cart, 5 is about the max. Can't really say if the Hoop Dee doo if the campfire will be close enough until you know your campsite (which you won't know till you check in). The campfire is centrally located but the Hoop Dee Doo is down by the docks. Would be a long walk if you're all the way on the other side of the campground.

If you get the cart you'll have a blast with it, fun fun :)

Golf carts are not a necessity and with six you might need two. The bus sytem often gets a bad rap but it is really very good. If you are going to spend most of your time in the parks the cart just sits all day. You may want to rent one for a day or two if you have a campground day planned.

If you go to the resort board there is a sticky regarding the new smoking areas, if you open the one for FW there is a very good map that also shows the bus routes(maybe we need to have this map as a sticky on this board too).

on our last trip we took the internal/FW busses to get to the marina/HDD and were able to walk to the campfire and pool easily from our site (which I think was 1439, see the picture in the pictures thread!).

Even if you take the busses, a golf cart isn't necessary. We drove a lot but took the busses and boats too, especially when we weren't in a hurry.

Some people suggest renting a cart on the day(s) you plan to skip the parks so you can check out the fort. We might do that next time we camp.
