I have two nights at HHI before our early July stay at WDW. ON the way home, we have three nights in HHI. I’m starting to think only one night going down is sufficient. Our vacation will really start in WDW.

If you generally stop at HHI for the drive to WDW, do you stay longer than just one night?

Thanks!

Well, we love HHI so I believe the least amount of time we've stayed is three nights. Last year we stayed 8 nights at HHI, followed by 9 at WDW. Though we live in southwestern PA - just east of Pittsburgh. So for us, while it's not that far out of the way, it's not exactly on the direct path to WDW. If we are only wanting to stop for one night on the way to WDW, we just grab a hotel right off the interstate. If we are going the extra effort to get to HHI, we are staying there for awhile. But that's just us.

I can imagine it's different if you live further east where HHI really is pretty much right on the way. I can see someone stopping for just one night (though I'd be sad to leave the next morning after only one night :goodvibes ).

We are just north of Pittsburgh & have made the drive several times. Only once have we stopped at HHI on the way & it was for 2 nights. Like Pens Fan said, it's not exactly on the way. IMO, if you plan on arriving in the morning, 1-day might be enough, but if you are arriving in the afternoon I don't think a 1-night stay would be worth it.

Unless you have the points to burn or some specific reason for going there, it seems like kind of a waste. If it's just a place to sleep before jumping in the car again, I'd find a clean Holiday Inn Express with free breakfast.

The past two winters we've stayed at HHI on our way down and would recommend staying more than one night if you're going to stay there. It's a bit of a drive off I95 and I think once you're there you will wish you would have stayed more than one night. It's actually a nice little break if you can swing it. There's some shopping right around the resort and a Kroger, Whole Foods and some restaurants just across the main road (all walkable). If you don't want to burn the points/$, you could stay closer to I95 on the way down. It's a relaxing place so it will be nice on your way home. Have a great trip!

We don’t have points to burn, and there is a seafood restaurant off I 95 that we do enjoy thats near Brunswick GA. I think I’ll cancel HH, Bank the points, and really enjoy the three night on the way going home.
Thanks

That sounds like a good idea to me. The other thing that occurred to me is that summer traffic on HHI can be intense - so it can take an extra 30 minutes just to get to Disney's resort once you are on the island - especially if its a check in/check out day for the week rentals. Going out of your way to put your head on a pillow, and then sitting in traffic isn't my own idea of a good time.

Hi bobbiwoz, I have often thought about stopping at HHI on our way to WDW but I just can't justify the distance out of our way to get there.

Question about have you drive for Cape May, do you take the ferry to Lewis DL or do you take the DL Memorial Bridge? I have often wondered what the best route would be from the shore area. Thanks in advance.

We tend to take the ferry. Whether it’s best, we aren’t sure! They are doing a lot of work on the DMB, and it bothered me the last time we used it. We do spend two nights on the road.

Coming home, we usually stop in Emporia VA, and it works for us to get one of the later ferries.

If I was coming from your area, I think I would take the ferry. It's just an added bonus to the trip. We leave our home in Burlington Co. around 3:45 AM just to avoid the traffic in the area of the bridge, it gets really crazy in that area.

Hey Bobbi!
Do tell, I love good seafood :goodvibes
Ok…this was recommended by a local. I had looked up the website and thought, yes, this would be fine.

Notice the ambiance! Dockside is depicted. Well, the actual place is not near the water at all. It sort of looks like a hole in the wall. We took a chance, and went in anyway. GA shrimp, so tasty. My meal from December travel.

Thanks Bobbi! This is exactly the kind of seafood I like. Nothing fancy, just tasty seafood. I have been it what is referred to as Fish Camps around NC, and its some of the best seafood I have ever had. Mostly Mom n Pops, the ambiance might be plywood seats, an occasional fish trophy on the wall, basic food, fried, broiled or grilled. This is now on my radar!
