driving to Tampa for baseball

Has anyone driven from WDW to Tampa to catch a baseball game? If so, I have two questions:
1. How bad is the traffic over there on a Friday or Saturday afternoon and then back to Disney late. I did read that I-4 has lots of construction going on, so that will slow things up. We are looking at night games for the week we are there.
2. Do the Devil Rays ever sell out? Do we need to buy tickets ahead of time? (Coming from Red Sox Nation, it seems impossible that you could just decide to go to a game. We plan our baseball trips almost as much as Disney trips.)

Thanks!

There is a lot of construction in the evening hours. If you are trying to go during rush hour allow yourself some extra time also.

The stadium is in St. Peterburg. You can expect traffic on the causeway as well as I4.

As an FYI--There is a big all day/night concert (12 bands) going on at the Fairgrounds on Saturday April 30th--my guess is that they'll draw 10,000 or more people. The Fairgrounds are right off of I-4 which you'll use to get to the ballpark, so plan accordingly if this is the day you're planning on heading there.

Sorry to thread jump, but just wondering how long it would take to drive from MCO to Tampa? We are going to Siesta Key for 2 weeks (last two weeks of December) and our considering flying into either MCO or TPA (from BUF). Wherever we can get the best airfare price, but was just wondering how long of a drive we will be looking at.
Thanks

I spent quite a bit of work time in St. Pete during baseball season. Generally, the Devil Rays don't sell out, the only time they come close to a sell out is when they are playing the Yankees or the Red Sox.

It will take you about 1:45 to drive from WDW to Tropicana Field assuming no traffic delays. (For riu girl, its about 1:15 from WDW to TPA, add about 20 minutes from MCO.)

my son and I will be at SSR from 4/16-4/23 and will be attending the Sox/Devil Rays game on 4/22. We bought tix online at the Devil Rays web site and will pick them up at will call.

Let me know if you're going that night. Red Sox Nation will need you!!!

Depends on teh time of day.

If there's no traffic, 90 minutes. If there's traffic or construction, up to three hours or more.
