Hello fellow disers,

On an upcoming trip in October we got an excelent price for a direct flight out of Rochester. The flight is at 2pm on a friday.

Normally if we flight out of rochester we get the earliest flight available and just drive down the night before and stay at a park and fly.

This time we are planning on driving from Ottawa to Rochester starting at 6am. Now i'm starting to worry about possible traffic issues on the way.

I don't want to drive down the night before because i'm working until 10pm and would only arrive at a hotel at 2:30 am. I don't want to risk messing my kids sleep up and having one or more of them just not sleeping that night.

So what do you all think? Do I have cause for concern if I leave at 6am to make a 2pm flight?

We are taking a flight at the same time 2pm but on another day. I am way to nervous about same day driving... So many what ifs come to mind... Accidents, flat tire, long border waits, freak storm... We are leaving late the night before.. The kids will be in Pjs and hopefully will sleep in the car :). We are staying at the Fairfield inn next to the airport with a nice breakfast. They have a pool so I'm thinking a lazy relaxing morning with a swim. Some in our party will go get some snacks/breakfast for the park .. In theory you should have time... But I've had so many weird things happen on my travel days that I like to get as close to the airport the day before...

Darn I think you are right.

I just hope they sleep when we get to the hotel

We did something similar from Syracuse with DD2 (was 8 months at the time). She slept maybe one hour!!!! It was her first night at a hotel and I was afraid to let her cry a bit.. Did not want to wake up guests. In the end we went to bed as soon as we got to the Disney resort. With the 2pm flight arriving around 6pm, we figure we can get a nice early bedtime for the little ones if the night before is rough. We will be nice and refreshed for the parks the next day. I understand you dilemma... Sleeping at home would ensure a good night sleep... However I'm a worrier and would probably not sleep :)

Defiantly better to play it safe. Too many thing could happen. And you are right. Wouldn't be the first time we out the kids to bed before 7pm.

Get good sleep and ready to rock next day.
