We will be driving to Hilton Head from Long Island, New York in a few weeks. This will be our 3rd trip there. We will be staying in Florence, South Corolina on the way down. My question is does anyone have a good place to stop on the way back to NY. We usually leave NY around 5am so we can drive to Florence with no problem, but I can not see us leaving HHI before noon and I cannot remember where we stayed on the ride home. Any suggestions??? Thanks!!!

How far do you want to go?
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Emporia, VA in June and it was very nice. I think that was about 6 or 7 hours from Hilton Head.

We too drive to / from HHI from NY & usually our trips to HHI are done when travelling to or from WDW. From where we live it is approx 810 miles to HHI so if we're going there southbound we leave home 4 - 5 AM & get there in about 14 hours which includes stops for gas/eats/etc.

We do stop at Florence if we are by-passing HHI. Stay at Exit 160A or 160B - "Magnolia Mall/Radio Drive/David McLeod Blvd" is best imho for Florence.....iirc 160B is exit when travelling south. We like Hilton Garden Inn here and there are also others that are nice as well - Marriott SpringHill. There's Chili's on same side of road as Hilton & good selection of places to dine on Magnolia Mall side of Road.

If you're looking for an overnight stop heading north from HHI Rocky Mount, NC is nice - - Exit 138 "Highway 64/Winstead Ave." which is where hospital is located. There's Hampton Inn, Marriott Courtyard among others & Outback Steakhouse, Highway 64 Diner nearby.
Washington DC could be a good stop as well -- we Priceline bid for Washington DC at either Resort, 4 star or 3.5 star level; go to bidding for travel dot com to view winning bid histories. You may want to stay in Alexandria instead of staying in heart of DC ( sometimes you can avoid the parking fee at those hotels - hotels in DC will be about $40 parking fee ).

Best wishes :goodvibes

Although we drive down 12 hours straight from DE, on the way back we break it into two so we can have one last beach morning!! We have stayed in Rocky Mount, NC which was nice and plenty of choices for hotels and food.

Have a great trip!!
