Has anyone driven from NH to HHI before? We will be making the trek next month and are looking for any advice. We will take two days to make the drive because we are traveling with kiddos and DMIL. ANy suggestions where to stop for the night or the best route to get there? TIA!

Remember to check on the transportation board here on the DIS and look at the sticky for people who are driving.

We like to take 84-81 and then cut over to 95. Sometimes we go all the way to 77 and then take 26 to 95. We think this is much prettier, avoids the whole NYC and DC messes, although it is longer.

On our trip to HHI we cut over to 95 on 64, and ended up staying overnight in Santee SC. This is probably too far south for you.

I'm sure others will soon chime in. We liked HHI, and I have to return for side trips to Charleston, and Savannah. Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House is on my list of places to visit.

We drive it in 14 hours from southern NY (staten island) leaving between 4am and 5am and get past all the Baltimore/DC traffic no problem; it's 800+ miles from our home. I'm thinking Rocky Mount, NC may be good stop for you. I will check my notes and try to post back more info in a bit.

I-95 to South Carolina Exit 8!
Exit 8 is US Route 278 which ends on the south end of Hilton Head.
Hilton Head US 278 has just had a repaving from the Cross Island ramp to DVC entrance at Shelter Cove.
Enjoy the smooth ride to your front door!
