Driving to Florida from Toronto Area

After lurking on the Transportation Board, I noticed postings about a slightly different route had opened up through the USA, from the GTA (and I wanted to share the knowledge).

Previously, the shortest (and quickest route) was I-90, 79, rt 19, I-77, 26, 95, 4 (I know it seems complicated, but it's not).

If you go to google maps, it now shows as the quickest route as I-90, I-77, 26, 95, 4 (skipping I-79 and the infamous rt 19) -- getting on the I-77 in the Cleveland area.

This route is now 6 minutes shorter than the I-79 routing (plus, it avoids rt 19, and the speedtraps).

Very helpful thanks! We're going to drive from Markham in August (first time driving).

Yikes! 926 km on I-77 better have a few movies ready to go for the kidlets!

Interesting. Good find.
I may want to try that route if the DW & DD 15 will ever drive down again. We flew Jet Blue last year and they're hooked.

Interesting....everytime we get on the I79 from the I90 my GPS starts telling me to turn around and that I have made a wrong turn. We have ignored it and carried on until it adjusted itself but I have wondered where it was going to route us. Seems possible that it wanted us to carry on to the I77.

we are driving down there in a month and a half. Going to have to seriously look at that route.
