Driving time from LA to San Diego?

My friend and I were looking for airfare to San Diego and well for my friend who is coming from NC is it cheaper to fly into LA and then drive down. I was wondering how long it would take to drive. Mind you I know CA is known for it's traffic and plus we plan on stopping at the beach on the way down.

Wow, we did this just about a week ago and it really depends. From the airport in San Diego to Disneyland? About 1 hour 45 minutes in good traffic I believe. Hit any kind of rush hour, accident etc traffic and that's a whole different story.

Oops, should have read that a little closer. From LAX to SAN airport, as an example, add about 45 minutes or so to above time in good traffic. Those areas are BIG.

I agree with the previous poster - allow about 2.5 hours from LAX to downtown San Diego during times of little/no traffic. With traffic, all bets are off - could take you three hours, could take you five. You do NOT want to do this drive on a Saturday after about 9:00 in the morning - traffic from Orange County south to San Diego is a nightmare. It doesn't get better until after 4:00 or 5:00 in the afternoon.
