Driving through the night from upstate PA. Any suggestions?

We have driven several times from NH to FL straight through, about 24 hrs with all the stops. DH could do it no problem if he had a better assistant driver. :D He can fall asleep in 10 seconds, anywhere, and fall into a deep sleep. So if I drive for three hours or so, he's good to go again. Our problem is that I can't sleep in the car at all and am a light sleeper anyway so I drive exhausted, which is not good. I think our driving throught the night days are over, we'll be stopping 1/2 way. But it is so much nicer (if you're not exhausted) so drive in the middle of the night with hardly and cars on the road, no traffic, no amusing kids. I listened to an audiobook. We would leave around 4-5pm and get to FL the same time the next day. That way we'd be up for a few hours and then go to bed. Would feel fine the next day. Don't think I could arrive in the morning and have to function the rest of the day.

My husband and I have driven through the night to various places. I'm more of a night owl, and he gets up early in the morning, so we each push ourselves-- a few hours later for me, and he gets up a few hours earlier. The last time we did this, we were going from Minnesota to Colorado for a ski trip. We were in such a bad snow storm that I-80 was closed so we dropped down to Kansas City to get on I-70. By the time we got to Colorado, I-70 was closed too and we took back roads to Denver. Perhaps this wasn't the most sensible thing to do, but it made for an interesting adventure.

You've got to be willing to pull over and to stop every few hours to clear your head. I like the idea about the essential oils. I'm going to do that next time. Also, when you arrive, if you can take a shower, that really helps get you going.

My advice - pull over - get a good night's sleep in Savannah - continue to Disney the next day! No more straight through trips for us!!!

It's about 5 hours from Savannah to WDW. IT makes such a difference when we pull into WDW fully awake without the immediate need for sleep!!!
Agree with I love Pluto. We have driven straight through the night (9:30 pm start) from MD stopping in Savannah for breakfast. Then driving the rest of the way through. We decided after trying that two years ago that from now on we will leave around 7 am and stay in Savannah for the night. The overnight stay was perfect for us and made the last few hours of the trip easy. But if you are set on driving straight through it can be done it just wasn't pretty for us!

We drive straight thru every time(we are in south jersey). DH and I switch after every state, it keeps us alert but then allows us to rest as well. Energy drinks and gum are a must. Our 6th trip is in December and this time we are going to try leaving at midnight and see how that works. We usually leave around 3am. We enjoy the drive but prefer to get it done in one day instead of stopping over night
