Driving Through I95 in Philadelphia, I95 reopened June 23 UPDATE

CNN is reporting that the tanker was on it's way to a Wawa, wonder if this will push anyone to Sheetz?
I hope it goes faster for those of you in PA than it did in MN when I 35 collapsed.
There is nothing on this great, green Earth that could compel me to choose a Sheetz over a Wawa!!!

In all seriousness though - why would the fact that was a Wawa tanker push anyone to a alternate gas/convenience store?

Agreed.

I saw on WPVI this morning, the workers are now taking taking the other side of I95 down. Both sides are closed at Cottman Avenue to Aramingo Ave. All alternate routes are at a standstill during rush hour.
There were a couple of cars that got across the bridge southbound while the truck was cooking the northbound lanes. They were saying that the bridge was already sagging on that side as they crossed. That side was compromised, as well just from those statements.

I saw the video of driver’s passing thru the smoke going south. I hadn’t heard about the sagging on the north side. Was wondering why the north side was ripped apart.

They are thinking of filling in the collapsed area (with dirt) and rebuilding I-95 temporarily as a non-bridge over it, which might take only one month. Then rebuild the bridge/overpass little by little over the area maintaining three open lanes each way..

The road(s) that ran underneath would be blocked for the several months it would take to restore I-95 as an overpass at that location and remove the temporary filled in earth underneath.

It is likely that the quickest way to get I-95 open again is to put the first mounds of dirt where the rebuilt overpasses want to be. There will be slow zones as the I-95 lanes are modified several times with different wiggles and jogs to get the new overpasses built and then the traffic moved over to them and the roadways straightened out again..
