Driving this year for Spring Break!!

Due to this trip being planned so last minute, it appears we'll be driving in from Texas as the airfare is 4-500.00 a person!!
For 4 people I cannot justify those prices, so looks like we'll be driving to Disney for the first time since 2004!!!!!!
We will drive 7 hours the first day, sleep in Pensacola, then drive the rest of the 8 hours the second day.(My DH's plan anyway....)
I will keep my fingers crossed that my kids keep the car drama to a minimum.....

Have you checked a bigger airport?? I live in Lafayette, LA and if I booked a flight out of Lafayette, it would cost around $400/person (we are a family of 5). But we have saved so much money the last 2 years by flying out of New Orleans (about 2 1/2 hr drive). We have flown for around $140 - $160 per person - HUGE DIFFERENCE!!! Also, another thing I do is I wait for a "ding" fare from Southwest.

Funny!! We are from New Iberia, small world!!
I did check all the nearby airports, but it's around the same fares at all of them, probably because it's spring break. We are going in March & I usually always buy airfare & book trips like 6 mos. in advance, but this is a last minute trip!
I will keep my eye on the SW dings though, you just never know what might pop up!! Thanks for the ideas!!

Yes, definitely look out for the dings. I just got a ding this morning for $66 each way New Orleans to Orlando for Monday thru Thursday and Saturday travel for March 1 - 30, 2010. Unfortunately, my dates are in May. But I'll keep looking for mine!!
