I remember reading some time ago that there was a way for kids to be able to sit with the conductor and "drive" the monorail. Can anybody clue me in as to how this is done?

6 more days!!!!!  :cheer2:

When you get to the station, just ask a CM. You should be able to wait and ride in the front. If you are in a hurry, try an off time, say if you are going to another park or something.

We have done it several times and it is great!

All you have to do is ask the CM working the loading platform if you can ride up front with the driver. Once the next train arrives, he will check to see if there is an opening.

A few notes about this...
1. The best time to ride in the front is during a time when either a) most folks are in the parks or b) most folks are in bed.
2. Only four guests at a time are allowed to ride up front.
3. If possible, ride up front at night, the views are spectacular - especially on the train that runs from TTC - POLY - GF - MK - CR.

Hope this helps!

We just got to do this for the second time this past Saturday. When we got to the top of the monorail station we were told we'd have to wait for next one. At first we were disgusted because we were tired and wanted to get to the MK, but then as I was walking up to the CM at the front of the loading area, it hit me to send DS(5) up to him and politely ask to drive. CM asked him who he favorite mouse was... DS said Mickey and with that, our request became a reality. DS loved it... especially going through the Contemporary. You get a card that states you were a monorail co-pilot.

The best chance to do this is on the resort monorail. You'll have a tougher time on the MK Express monorail. Maybe you can on the Epcot one as well. Anyway, ask the station attendant if you can.

A good time to try is when returning to your room for a rest or another time when the monorails aren't too busy. Your kids will love it! :bounce:

Tim, who sometimes wishes the kids were still young enough to think it's a thrill to ride in front.

We rode the front of the monorail during christmas week on both loops. We just asked at the barrier and we OK to go if there was no one else in the front at the time. We had a great time and took lots of pictures.
Have a great trip.

We rode up front on the monorail on our last trip, and boy was it fun! Great views. And the conductor was very nice!!

We went over July 4th and we rode it twice...the only times that we asked we got to do it. Nobody else was in line to do this. They only allow 4 people to sit in front. We are a family of 5, so my DH took the kids one time and I took them another time. We are all small people, but they are strict on the number 4. My kids had fun doing this. Here they are pictured below in front of the monorail

try the Epcot monrail one...

some people don't even try for this one!!!

going from TTC to EPcot is the best - you go into Epcot....

Keep in mind the limit of 4! No exceptions are possible. My family rode up there while I was in 'steerage.' Oh well. Great for the kids.

We were able to ride on our January trip. The views in the evening are so pretty! it was just another bit of :wizard: to make a vacation a bit more magical.

When I was there two weekends ago my niece and I got to ride up front. When we left our room at the CR I noticed the lines were really long, by the time we got down to the monorail it was empty, we had just missed the last train. So the CM started chatting with my niece and when it came in he had the two of us, along with a young guy and I think his younger brother ride up front. Brianna loved it, and unfortunately after that wanted to ride up front every time. Hard to explain to a stubborn 4 year old that others have to have a chance as well. We got to do it that same afternoon leaving MK and heading back to CR. She got the little co-pilot card, I have it saved to give to my sister next time I see her.

When we rode, our monorail driver didn't say a word to us. Not a single thing. It was a bit weird with our silent driver, but my kids loved it anyway. When we were done, he didn't offer a license, but I saw them in a little tiny folder hanging on the wall behind him. When I asked him for one, he turned and handed it to me, again without saying a word.
