Hi! I need some opinions on driving to Disney from NY. We will be making the trip ourselves next June, but my BIL and his family are going in October. If their plan works out well we will follow it next year. They are interested in staying overnight either at the end of S. Carolina or the beginning of Georgia. Does anyone have any info on where it is better/safer to stay? They were thinking of either Hardeeville, SC or Savannah,GA. If anyone out there has any other opinions they are welcome. Thanks so much for your help.

Hi...I just made this trip 3 weeks ago. I stayed in Hardeeville at the Days Inn...Exit 5...it was only $35.95. I checked rates in Savannah...and they were twice this rate for various hotels. The area in Hardeeville was fine. There were a group of hotels together...and as a female traveling alone w/ my 3 kids I did not feel as if it were not safe. Good luck.

How many hours will it take you from NY to Georgia??

We just did the drive from NH to Florida and because we were moving, we each had our own car. After 12 hours, driving was MISERABLE.... it took us 15 from NH to Fayetteville NC. I would never drive more than 12 hours straight.... just a thought.

My vote would be SC as opposed to Georgia. The stretch through SC is long and tedious with construction, you'll want to stop by the end of it. Its about 6 hours to WDW from the southern part of SC.

I would suggest you be careful in your timing on when you come through DC. You will be going through 2 of the top 10 congestion areas in the US. The metro DC has 3 or 4 of them total and one of the ones you will be going through is number 2.

we did it in July from Mass... what a pain.
We left very very early on a Friday morning (2:30 am!!!) to beat the traffic in NY which we did no problem, but from about DC through VA was a nightmare of construction and traffic.

We stopped for the night (pre-arranged reservations) in Lumberton NC (almost in SC), and it took us 17hours to get there!

The next day wasn't as bad, but still took us about 12 hours to get from there to Disney (again, construction, traffic and a few storms).

I never want to do that drive again... although I hate to fly, so now I'm faced with deciding the lesser of the evils! lol.
