We have driven down I-75 many times and know the route well. We decided to try using mapquest and yahoo driving routes to see how they would plan the trip to orlando and both have us crossing at niagara and taking I-195 heading towards erie pa, and then crossing across over to I-95 down to Fla. The one thing that caught my attention right away was the numerous tolls it told us we were going to have to pay for. Is it worth it to go this route? We are coming from Peterborough Ont and usually make it to orlando in about 22hrs. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Looks like we are going the same time!!! I used Mapquest for our trip in Nov. It was very straight forward. If you plan on taking I75 buy the book Along the I75 it is AWESOME. Good luck and have fun,. Are you planning on MNSSHP we are and I can't wait!!! :cheer2:

We just got back 2 weeks ago from our second trip down the I-95 route. I don't mind the tolls because I find the scenery a lot prettier (well, except maybe through Kentucky which is where the I-75 really shines), and there isn't the same amount of traffic. Also, the trip is slightly shorter going through the Virginias and Carolinas.

I hope you have a great time going whichever way you go, just watch your speed through PA if you go that way, I think we hit a speed trap specifically geared towards the out of state traveller.

I am running out to buy it right now.........literally! Be back from Chapters shortly. You are right we are going at the same time, sounds like you guys are super excited about this trip too! We are still undecided about the MNSSHP, or we were thinking about a disney princess character breakfast for the DD. DS is too young to understand it.

If you are driving anywhere near Erie, PA, it won't be on I-95 (probably you mean I-90). On that route (I-90,79,77,26,95) you don't meet I-95 until southern South Carolina.

Tolls are not that bad -- approx $10-15 USD each way (much better than taking the 407 across the GTA).

Hockeychic and myself have taken both routes and by far the I-95 route is nicer and quicker (2hrs).(We leave from the Newmarket,Ont. area) It all depends when you are leaving (time of year) winter time I would take I-75 as there is not that many mountains to go through but any other time of year it would be I-95..One thing though,if you go in the fall (I-95) you have to watch out for the deer.We counted 18 dead deer on the road with another 15 (kill zones,as I was calling them. You could see the impact area but no carcass.) That was through the 2 Virgina's...Just watch your early morning drive times and late night drive times.... :wave2:

My parents do this route all the time. Just did it last weekend and are down for 6 glorious sunshine filled weeks - god I wish I was with them!

Anyway there are about 5 tolls, but it is worth it. The route is less travelled by tractor trailers, the scenery is magnificant (actually drive thru mountains twice, yes I said drive thru as in tunnels) and since it has become a favorite 2nd route in getting to the sunshine state it has become more built up with lots of hotels, restaurants and gas stations to choose from.

My family and I have done I-75 before but plan on taking this new route next year.

My parents have owned their place in St. Petes Beach for 22 years and have only taken I-75 down once or twice in that time.

We have traveled both routes and are actually headed down in about 5 hours by I-75. We did find that when travelling in winter, and through the night, my husband found it more stressful on the I-95 route. He was worried about fog through the mountains, more snow, deer, etc. It certainly is more scenic and we would travel it any other time of the year, but March is Disney for us and so we play it safe and take I-75. I did pick up the Along I075 book and there is an amazing amount of information in it. It will make the trip a little more entertaining! :flower:

Hey SnowWhite!

How do you do the I-75 route from Peterborough in 22 hours? That's amazing! You must be flying! :earseek:

Yeah our last trip we went to Daytona first and left at 5:00pm here (we tend to miss rush hour in all the major American cities that way) and got to Daytona the next day at 3. However what I didn't mention is that I don't let ANYONE get out of the car for food and they are only allowed VERY short bathroom breaks! It bugs my husband but he always thanks me when we get there sooo much quicker. :smooth:
