my husband and I want to drive to the different resorts and walk around. What is the best way to do this?
Use our rental or Disney transportation?

Agreed, use your rental car with the exception of the monorail loop, there you can just park at one (Poly/GF/CR), monorail around and even take a boat to the Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness from the Contemporary.

If you're ever there without your rental, Uber or Lyft it. Anything to avoid the time-suck of having to transfer at a park in between.

Without a reservation, you likely won't be allowed to park at any of the near-park resorts.

Many of the resorts are clamping down on people parking at resorts without ADRs. Especially at the MK and Epcot resorts.
I would suggest parking at the TTC and then minor ailing, or walking, to the Polynesian, then taking the monorail to the other MK resort.
You may have an easier time parking at the Epcot resorts. If they won't let you park, just park at DHS and walk or boat over to them. This all assumes you're staying onsite and parking is free.

Yes, much better than major ailing. :duck:

Yes! Good question! I want to know the same thing. We will be at WDW in March, and on our last night, we will be changing over to staying off property. The next day, we want to just shop, and resort hop. How to do that is the question I have as well. We won't have free parking at that point, but will have a car. If we want to get to the Boardwalk area, how do we do that without park tickets, and without parking? Does Disney Springs have a boat, or a bus, or a bike, or roller skates that will allow us to get there? I want to bring back cupcakes for my daughter that are only made at the Boardwalk Bakery. Getting them any day before - they just won't make it home fresh, or home at all for that matter. Boardwalk parking is limited, I hear. Yeah, I want to know the same thing. How can we do this without paying extra for taxi, uber, or parking?

The easiest way would be to make a dining reservation at one of the Boardwalk restaurants. They won't give you any trouble then. Can you plan a breakfast or lunch there?

Yes, you could park at DS in this case, as long as you have lots of time and patience. There should be plenty of parking in the garages during the daytime.

Full bus service from DS to the resorts starts at 11am. Before that, buses run to only a few resorts; reaching other resorts might require a double transfer. There are boats from DS to the SSR, PO, & OKW resorts, starting around 10:15am.

To get between resorts, there are boats (or you can walk) between the Epcot resorts (BW, Swan, Dolphin, YC, BC), and of the course the monorail between MK resorts. There's also a boat between CR & WL. To get between any other 2 resorts, you need to travel to an open theme park or DS and transfer. Traveling between resorts without a direct connection can take over an hour (2 20-minute waits plus travel time); if you're lucky, you might make it in 30 minutes.

The boats between the Epcot resorts do not connect to the buses from Epcot; this is the only place where you cant make a transfer at a park. Those boats also go to DHS, where you can connect to buses.
