To those of you who have done it before...

We are leaving from GTA West (Georgetown) at 2 AM on Wednesday morning (Tuesday night)

1) Will we run into morning rush hour around Pittsbugh?

2) Is reaching Columbia, SC reasonable in the first day if we want to be there around 6 PM -ish?

Thanks!

36 hours to go...:scared1:

You'll Hit Pittsburgh around 7:00 AM. I-79 passes west of Pittsburgh so you won't be going through too much developed urban areas. It is not like the 401 in T.O. Fuel will probably be cheaper in PA than New York on the throughway. There's a couple of huge truck stops just inside the PA line. If you find a Sheetz they're my favorite service station in the US. There is a Sheetz right off I-79 at the Grove City exit.

You may however hit Charlotte NC during their evening rush hour and I-77 goes right by downtown. There are HOV lanes that you will be able to use.

Here's a link to the Charlotte traffic cameras you may want to have a look during their rush hour this afternoon

16 Hours to Columbia SC is reasonable.

Don't speed through Summersville, WV

I hear you on Summersville...have heard that and will be very aware.

I think your link is wrong... are you trying to offer me something? ;>)

I agree with Ham Ham...16 hours to Columbia is reasonable. We're in Burlington and it takes us 14 hours to Columbia including a lunch stop, dinner stop and a third stop for gas. Add the extra 45 mins to come from Georgetown plus 30 - 45 minutes for Charolette rush hour (definitely stick to the HOV lanes) and you should make it in 15 - 16 hours. It should only take you 7 hours the next day from Columbia to WDW. I know your first day is a long day but if you can leave early on day two you should be able to avoid rush hour (starts by 3pm) in Orlando on the I-4.

Hi there!!! I read on here somewhere but of course forget where....that there is website you can go to and get an estimate of how much gas will cost you to drive to Florida, I have been looking but can't find it...does anyone know the website? I know you put what kind of car, where you are starting and ending and dont' really remember anything else...LOL:confused3

Thanks!!!:flower3:

Gas is about $3.20 - $3.40 US per gallon now. On your return trip heading north be careful on I-77 north of Charlotte near Statesville. Traffic was a killer there this weekend -- same holds true for the second tunnel in VA. There can be long delays and a detour off I-77 there.

You should be fine near Pittsburgh. Have fun

Try this for gas prices
