Where is a good stop if we need to stop to sleep in Chattanooga TN? Some place clean, and right off the exit. If you had an exit number that would be great too. Last time when we drove by, i dont recall seeing a large exit to stop at, but i may have missed it.

Thanks!!

If you can, try to drive into Ga so you dont hit Choo Choo morning rush hour and the possibility of construction. The south loves the Schneider egg (orange cones for orange trucks!! It's the state bird in Oklahoma and Texas!!

My suggestion is if you can drive about 45 minutes more to go south to Dalton, GA. That is where we used to stop and there are lots of nice, clean places right off the highway. There are also lots of options for gas and food.

Exit 333 has a nice Courtyard we've stayed at but there are lots of other options at the same exit. By staying there and leaving early the next morning we were able to get through Atlanta before the height of their morning rush hour.

If you leave here at 9:30 you should miss major traffic in Hotlanta.

I agree, I would try and get into at least northern GA. Not sure where you are coming from or when you plan on leaving, but when my family would drive down from Indianapolis, we would try to get at least past Atlanta.

Thank you everyone for your ideas. We are coming from Ohio, but we cant leave until 6 PM. I have to work until then. If we get to much further than Dalton area, we will be at the point, where it is to late to stop. I dont think we will drive much further than 2-3 AM. Our plan is to drive straight through, but it depends on us and the kids. I want to have a back up location to stop. We will be traveling on a Friday night, so hopefully not a lot of rush hour traffic on Sat AM.

Sounds like you guys could be my family. We are also leaving on a Friday night from Ohio with the plan to drive straight through. We will be leaving around 6:00 pm and driving straight down I75. We would love to leave earlier but with the work schedules of everyone going, it will not be possible.

Have a safe and fun trip!!!

I live in N. Ga and work in Chattanooga and the suggestion about exit 5 is the best. It's the Shallowford Road exit and there are several hotels to choose from - Hampton, Holiday Inn Express, etc. You will hit construction around exit 11 or so, but if you're driving at night, it will be fine. I would not recommend driving to Dalton, you have a better selection at the Shallowford Road exit.

Also, if you're going through ATL on Saturday morning, you should breeze straight through. Have a safe trip and honk as you pass the Ringgold, GA exits!

Exit 5 at Shallowford is a good area. My DD got married Saturday and some friends stayed at the Country Inn and Suites there. There is also a Staybridge and many many others. They all are relatively new and well maintained. If you are coming from Nashville, you will go a few miles out of the way to get here--Highway 24 goes into 75--you wll need 75 South to get to Orlando, but you will have to go 5 miles on 75 North to get to Shallowford.
Exit 11 (Ooltewah) has new hotels but unless you are traveling from that way, it is out of the way and consruction is a real pain--it goes from 4 to 2 lanes and there is a backup any time of day.
If you are coming in from Nashville there are a few spots that are more downtown and older. If you stay on 75 south towards Atlanta, the East Ridge exit has a lot of motels but it is an older area.
You will see listings for Hixson but that is way out of the way.
When we came to look for a house before moving here, we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Ringgold, GA (maybe 10 minutes south of Chatt) and it was fine.
