Has anyone picked up rt. 429 at Winter Garden and taken it to WDW? Is it a new rt.? I am visiting my father and need to make a quickie trip to WDW to pick up some passes. I seem to remember we used a new route last March and it was much quicker. I think it was 27 to Florida turnpike to rt. 429 then follow signs to WDW. Does this sound familiar to anyone? :confused3 Thanks

Take 429 to exit 8 Hertzog Rd. Get off there and follow Western Way into WDW. Watch your speed on Western Way. Western Way ends at Bunea Vista Drive. From BVD you can go anywhere in the World.

Nearest guest services is DTD (free parking) or MGM ($10.00 to park). Both are lefts off of Western Way on to BVD.

suevee, be a tad bit careful about following the speed limit on your way from The Villages to DW property. It appears that you could go faster than it is otherwise posted and there have been reports of many tickets, some I know about personally, even though it were not I. :rotfl2:

cranbiz, next time I visit my friend in Deltona I will think of you and your sense of humor. Love it!!! :dance3:

To specifically answer your question, the answer is you've got it right. US27 south to the Turnpike, Turnpike south to Exit# 267A (TOLL 429/Western Beltway) and then the 429 south to Exit# 8, "Disney World/Hartzog Road".

I will repeat the warning for going the speed limit on Western Way. Seems like a deputy is always stationed somewhere on that road and particularly east of the long bridge where the speed then drops to 35mph which is unreasonably slow for a wide-open road with no traffic on it. Very unfair.

Thanks so much to everyone! I am visiting my father for the weekend and need to stop a SoG to pick up some Ap passes for the following year. I thought we has used 429 last year and it was a much easier drive.

King Bob, I concur. Life is not fair though and I wonder if they are paying for that road with the many fines they are collecting?:rotfl:

That being said I love the new road and since I tend to stay on that side of the property it is even better. I hate driving 1-4 and I think the locals are relieved to get rid of us too.:rotfl2:

suevee, I had a bit of a problem finding the right exit from DW back toward Ocala. The good news is that if you dead end it is a short trip back to the exit. I get lost easily though. :)

I am flying into MCO on Friday, picking up a rental and heading to my Dad's. Then on Sunday morning I plan to leave Dad's at 6 am, head to SoG, pick up my tickets, maybe have breakfast at Kona Cafe and be at MCO by 10 am to catch a noon flight home. I was able to snag a round trip fare for $88 total so this is a quick unexpected trip to visit Dad.

However, since we are going to WDW in March and June in 2008, I thought I would pick up my AP passes while I am there to save a little money(no taxes and before prices go up) and be able to order my DDE card in February 2008.

Breakfast at Kona's is just my little reward for being a good daughter to my Dad and saving DH some money.

If you are going to SOG, when you exit 429, turn left at the bottom of the exit ramp onto Western Way, and then when Western Way dead ends next to Coronado Springs, turn left again. You can either take the main road (World Drive) through the MK toll gates, or you can go on down to Bonnet Creek Parkway (where Port Orleans is located) and when Bonnet Creek Parkway dead ends, turn left. This will take you in past Fort Wilderness and bring you into World Drive just past the MK toll gates.

I love the new Western Way entrance!

suevee, I cannot think of a better reward for being a good daughter and DW than a breakfast at Kona's. :thumbsup2

Please wave to all my friends in The Villages for me?

If you are going to SOG, when you exit 429, turn left at the bottom of the exit ramp onto Western Way.....

Technically speaking, you don't turn left at the bottom of the ramp. The exit is signed as "Disney World / Hartzog Road" and if you follow the Disney World signs then the road makes a cloverleaf-type loop to your right, circles around and takes you directly east into Disney World. There is no left turn involved because you're looping around.

The reason for the drop in speed is the crossings for AK vehicles.

Disney paid for most if not all of that road, and gets nothing back on any speeding tickets.

You would save about 34 seconds on your trip if you drove at 45 instead of 35 for the length that it is 35MPH. (Yes, I drive it a lot, and yes, I've got nothing ebtter to do with my time than figure ridiculous trivia like that out.)

Hi ya Anne! You do know I was just funning around about them making big bucks off the traffic tickets?? :)

Thank you for explaining the reasoning behind the slow speeds. That makes sense.

I have never even gotten a warning ticket in my life cause I usually follow the rules, EXCEPT when going on the interstate to FL and that is cause the folks behind me do not like it. I stick in the non passing lane and just keep up with traffic, no passing involved. :cool1:

As 'unfun' as it might be MOST rules are for a good reason.

I love that road as well. One of the best improvements that they have made since they redid the signage a few years ago.

You make a good point about not speeding. I think similarly. Saving a few seconds is not nearly as important as saving a few lives.

Again thanks to everyone for their help. I am always careful to drive the speed limit in places that are unfamiliar to me. So I don't think I will have a problem. Thanks for the warnings and the directions it helps me out a lot!!!
