driving from TO to Bufflo airport

Thanks for the advice guys. I think we'll wind up leaving the house at about 3-3:15am then. That leaves us over 4hours to get to Buffalo and through the airport. The problem we have with staying over the night before is that I have to work untill 6 or 7pm Sunday night and we wouldn't be in Buffalo untill about 10pm. I just can't see spending the extra $50-60 for a hotel room so I can sleep an extra 3 hours.

If you are going to leave your car at the airport there is a discount coupon on the Buffalo airport web site. With the coupon it cost less than parking off site.

At that time of the morning, they'll be very few cars in front of you at the border. Last Saturday, my spouse crossed the Fort Erie border @ 9:30am. It took about 3 minutes, including talk time with the border guard.

Most of the border delays (headed towards the US) at Fort Erie are between 10:00am and 3:00pm.

Leaving early is probably a good strategy, but I'd be willing to bet you'll be driving up to the airport by 5:15am (if you leave @ 3:15am).

The Fort Erie crossing has the shortest lines, 90% of the time.

Before I leave home, I check the border wait times @
http://cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/general/times/menu-e.html

My practice is to use one of the following two methods, while I'm enroute, to determine the best crossing:

1) On my cell phone, I go to www.gc.ca, click on services, and then border wait times.

2) Or, I call 1-800-715-6722, to receive recorded info border crossing wait times.

There is road construction in St. Catharines which is causing traffic delays. Allow yourself extra time.

Thanks for this info...very helpful!

Hi Amps,

Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in for further assurance. I'm with OntFamily. I say 125 mins from your front door to the front door of the airport when travelling at that time of morning...presuming no unforseen delays.

90 mins - your front door to Peace Bridge
5 mins - crossing the border/bridge
15 mins - Peace Bridge to airport
15 mins - Parking/shuttle to airport front door

Any bridge but the Queenston-Lewiston bridge. Unless it is 5:00 AM on a Tuesday.

Peace Bridge is longer it terms of KM's to BUF but usually less grief.

Great earlier post on checking wait times at the crossings.

If I had a flight at 15:00 I would leave my house in Mississauga by 8:00 AM at the latest. Leaving 3 hours of travel time to get across the border. Have lunch in Buffalo get to the Airport around 12:30.

Good Luck.
