Driving from the Chicago area...

We live down in the Kankakee area and have always taken I-57, to I-24 to I-75.... Is that the best way or have people taken other ways that are faster????

Since you are right off of 57 that would probably be just as efficient as going over to 65 in Indiana and going down Indiana. I'm SW of Chicago and did 65 down last time.
