Driving from Texas

Have a DVD Player for the kids!!! Take Snacks and a cooler full of drinks with you to help alleviate the costs of stopping and getting them from the convience stores.

Take I20 to Jackson MS then US49 to Hattiesburg then US98 to Mobile then jump on I10. More to see. On the interstate from Shreveport to Baton Rouge there isnt much to see and the cops are brutal on that stretch. Course that might set you up for I10. I apologize to all those that live in the panhandle of FL near I10 but that drive from Pensacola to Tallahassee is the absolute PIT!!! Nothing to see at all!!

We could have made it to WDW driving straight through. We were in Lake City (where I10 and I75 intersect) in 14 hours from Flower Mound. On the way back, plan a stop if you are in the parks for even 1/2 a day. We played at the parks until 7pm. I drove from WDW to Tallahassee and had my wife take over. She went for about an hour and we had to get a room in Marianna.

Have a great Trip and drive safe!!!!

If you'd prefer to stick to the I20-I49-I10 route (which takes you through Shreveport, Alexandria, & Baton Rouge), be prepared for some traffic as you hit Baton Rouge.

Not sure of your departure times, but I'd try to avoid BR at rush hour, especially the 3-6pm drive time.

Also, if you come through BR, hop on I-12 which will take you north of New Orleans. It will rejoin with I-10 and you can continue on until FL.

I have to concur with Nebsky. Lots of pasture, woods & farmland along most of I-49. Billboards have been prohibited along most of this stretch as well. So unless you enjoy peaceful agrarian landscapes, this part of the trip will be less than exciting.

We will be driving to WDW on Dec 24th.

Has I-10 been repaired or is there still Katrina damage to worry about along that route? That's the route we always take but I am a little concerned with all the bridges.

Marianna is our favorite exit and we make it a point to stop there both ways. Very nice Mcd's, clean and they have a value menu!

We live in Shreveport and take I-49 to I-10/12/10. We have done the I-20 to Jackson once and it wasn't any quicker. Getting out of Mobile was harder because we got stuck in traffic on a little road before we got to I-65. We've made this trip about 19 times and it takes us about 14 hours.

Thanks everyone for all the helpful info! I think we decided on the I-49 to 10/12/10 route as we are leaving at 5 in the evening and will be on the road at night so want to be on the interstate. Time is drawing near and we are so excited! :cool1:  :wizard:
