Driving from Sault Ste. Marie Ontario at Xmas

We are doing 10 days Dec 23 to Jan 2nd. We are hoping to do the drive the first time in our 7 trips. Our problem is we don't own our vehicle. It is a company to use as we wsnt. We could take it, but it doesn't feel right if anything happened to it. If I book a car rental say in Flint mi and returned it to flint is their any problems with that? I have it booked right now for $230.00 taxes included for a full size car. Ideally we would like to fly and if prices are reasonable we will. We have flown from Buffalo or niagara falls ny the last 6 years and always say we should try the drive because we live in Northern Ontario and it is a 7 hour drive to buf for us then a day in the airport. Any suggestions let me know. TIA

try to fly. keep in mind that winter in the Appalachians can be unpredictable and treacherous -- this year is a prime example with North Eastern US getting more snow than Southern Ontario.

Where did you normally fly out of? Would it be a little cheaper to drive to Flint or Detroit and fly out of there? Although there are plenty of parking lots to chose from at Detroit - you could stay and night at a hotel and get free parking for your trip as well.

Good advice. You should be able to find a Christmas flight for under $400 (Detroit)and lots of park/fly hotels. Air Canada also had Christmas flights for $450.00 which is quite reasonable. The drive at that time of year can be good or quite an adventure. BTW, you are going at the best time of the year!

Thanks everyone. We always check Flint, lansing, grand rapids, saginaw, rochester, buffalo, niagara falls.Buffalo has been coming up cheaper. Hoping for good flight prices. Now that southwest is flying from flint fingers crossed prices will be good. Eithier direction same length of time.
