I will be staying a week at WLV next year and then a week at Hilton Head Grande Ocean. i am planning to drive all the way up, but that might be long. Anybody's done that before? How long is the drive? MAybe a good alternative would be to stop at St. Augustine halfway and stay overnight to cut driving time in half? Any ideas?

Joe, I did a quick and dirty check on MapQuest and it's about a 5-6 hour drive. I'm not sure that you would need to break a drive like that up other than for the usual potty breaks.

Joe - we do it all the time (next time is 9/2!!) and it is a 5 hr. trip from Orlando. Depending on the day of the week, be sure to watch the time you go through Jacksonville because of morning "rush hour". It can get congested. This time we are leaving Orlando about 5:30 AM and meeting friends for breakfast at the Cracker Barrel on HH. Can't wait - we leave Pa. 8/25 for WDW, having a little DIS meet on 8/27 at Luna Park Pool with the above "ripleysmom", then off to HH on 9/2 - hooray!!! Have a great trip.:earsgirl:

We actually did that in June...well, we drove from Orlando to Charlotte NC(an 8 hour trip)but went right by Hilton Head at about hour 5 1/2. It's not a difficult drive because the roads are mostly flat, not a lot of traffic in general. We arrived in Orlando at 1PM, and left immediately from the airprt to get on the road to NC, so we were probably hitting the vicinity of HH around rush hour...i don't remember any craziness with traffic or anything.

Gail Reale -- noticed you're from Richboro -- I'm from Holland.

We've driven many times to WDW and we "stop over" in Hilton Head. We have family who live there so we drive from Bucks County, PA to Hilton Head, stay a day or two and then drive onto WDW. It takes us exactly five hours. Not a bad ride at all. Although I will admit, it's always more exciting driving down than driving home.

Enjoy!

the pooh bear... Yes, we do the trip in one day. I would say an honest accounting of time is 12 hours. I would admit that I-95 is a little boring, especially through North and South Carolina. On one trip, we left Friday night and drove 5 hours, woke up Sat. and completed the trip. If at all possible, I like to do it in one day to help defray the cost of staying overnight. If memory serves, me right, the half way point is Emporia.

We did all timed trips just this past year....

In March, we drove to WDW then stopped at HH on the way home....it took us 5 hours.

This past June, we went to HH. We left Central PA on Saturday night, stopped at Santee, SC for the night. Sunday was our check-in day for HH. We stopped in Charleston SC for a few hours on the way to HH. It was about 2-2 1/2 hours from Charleston to HH.

After 6 WONDERFUL days at HH we drove straight home from HH to Central PA......it was exactly 12 hours home.

Thank you all for the replies. I am glad it is not that long a trip. I hope my baby girl thinks the same. Can't wait to stay at the famous Hilton Head Island. Sounds like such a relaxing and peaceful place. Might spend a night in St. Augustine. If anybody's done this, please let me know.

Thanks.
