Driving from NJ - Can you suggest a good stopping point?

We will be driving down in May with our dog and I need to know a good stopping point about half way. We drove about 5 years ago, but I don't really remember. Thanks!

We are in S Jersey and we drove to FL every year when I was growing up. We would always stop in MD for gas and a snack. I believe its called The Maryland House.

I'd say half way is the border of NC & SC. IMO We always stopped at South of the Border.

I've driven down 3 times..once with my then 9 mo old son and 2 dogs. We drove from Queens, NY and stopped at South of the Border. Good place to walk dogs and stuff. We left around 9:00pm and got there around 5-6am don't remember exactly. Everyone including the dogs slept. It was perfect.

ARe you looking to stop half way, or are you planning on trying to cover a lot of ground that first day. We drive from Central NJ and usually leave around 3:30AM. We drive until we reach Savannah, GA, which we get to around 4:30 - 6:00PM. We stay there for the night and then the next day it's only about a 4 - 5 hour drive to WDW. Halfway probably would be Florence, SC.

We drive frequently from st. louis. 1,000 miles one way or 16 hours. We leave around 8:00pm on friday, and drive all night. the kids sleeps. She wakes up at 7:00am and we eat breakfast, usually at florida state line. then finish the last 4 hours or so to disney.

it seems counter productive to me to stop at a hotel. If I was tired, I just pull off in a rest stop (done it many times) to get an hour or 2.

We usually drive from Jersey to South Carolina! Last drive we stopped at the Holiday Inn at Santee(between Florence and Hilton Head). I would stop there again! The next day, we only had about a 6 hour drive!

Savannah, Ga is a good spot to stop. Thats where we stopped last May. Stayed at a Hampton Inn. Nice place. Its right off of I-95.

another vote for south of the border. when i was growing up we drove from ny every year and that was our 1 night stop!!

I drove down all by myself once. So I actually stopped twice. Once in North Carolina, and the next was in Savannah, GA. If you can make it all the way to Savannah, that's where I would stop. I couldn't believe how short my drive was the next day.

It really depends on what your gas mileage is on your car. We have an SUV that gets about 21 or so MPG when driving on highways. WE also have to use premium fuel. We usually figure we spend about $250 each way on gas, so about $500 total. We live in Central NJ.
