Driving from NJ-any advice???

We have driven twice and plan on driving again in August. We prefer the straight-thru method over the overnight stop.

One question tho....My GPS and my AAA "triptik" made us do this..... 95 thru the Richmond VA area.... why must you go in a huge "C" around that area....why can't you go straight thru?

You can go straight through, but if you go during peak hours, you will hit traffic. If not, it is faster to go straight through...

We will probably be there in the overnight hours. I'm guess rush hour would be bad? Also, is it thru the city of Richmond? It seems like we could cut so much time off by going straight through.

Yes, you drive right through the city. After 7pm, you fly through...

I live in GA, and I agree that every single time we have come back from FL (usually on Sundays), that I-95 N from just south of Brunswick to just south fo Savannah is at a slow down or a crawl. And there is usually nothing occuring to cause this. Yes they are doing road construction in this area (expanding lanes), but they work at night, and going south on I-95 is like driving with a race car driver. But coming back.....OMG! Over NOTHING!

YES, YES, YES,!! --So very true! We just returned to upstate NY from our trip 3 weeks ago and we were in traffic for over an hour (due to construction that wasn't even going on) and it suddenly broke & traffic was back to normal. So confusing to my husband & I.
