I live outside of Hartford and would recommend 84-81-77 route over 95. It is only about an hour difference if traffic is equal, but having done both routes, 95 is virtually guaranteed to stop up around NYC, DC and the enitre state of South Carolina, unless you are extremly lucky. The other route, you really only have to contend with Waterbury (which is always jammed) and possibly Charlette.
