We are driving down to WDW from Maryland for the first time. We usually fly or take Auto Train. I am looking to stop somewhere in Georgia for the night. I have made a reservation at the Hampton Inn in Brunswick, GA. Does anyone know anything about this area. Is it a nice safe area? How about the hotel there? I am also thinking about the Hampton Inn in Richmond Hills, but I got a better rate in Brunswick. I would appreciate any help.

Thanks.

Hi,

We drive from Virginia and usually stop in Florence SC. We stay at the Hampton Inn. We have also stopped in Savannah too. Once again, staying at a Hampton Inn. HI seem to be clean and of course they have a nice little breakfast in the mornings.

We stayed in Brunswick, GA last May driving from Baltimore. We stayed at the Fairfield Inn which was great. It took us less than 4 hours to get to WDW the next day. From Baltimore it was less than 12 hours with two stops.

Hi Bart, I've stayed at the Hampton Inn in Brunswick, Ga. It is a nice area, right off I-95. The rooms were very clean and they had a delicious continental breakfast. Also, there's a Burger King next door which we used to buy dinner and bring back to the room. We were so tired from the drive that we just wanted take-out. Stay safe and have fun!!

...try Lumberton, NC? It is just north of the SC-NC border and is pretty built-up - stores, gas stations, restaurants, hotels (not the usual 1 or 2 choices....)

Hi fellow Marylander!
We are driving down from Odenton in mid-June. This will be our second drive down with a four year old and seven year old. We will be stopping in Florence, S.C. it is almost exactly half way to Orlando. When you drive, make sure you take route 3(301) until Richmond. You really don't want to deal with the traffic around D.C!
Have a wonderful time!

Thanks Jeanne. If you're in Odenton, we are neighbors. I am just off the BW parkway in Laurel. Based on the responses here, we will be staying in Brunswick, Georgia on the way down, and in Florence, SC on the way back.

Thanks all.

Bart

In late March of this year (Easter) we also drove from Gaithersburg, MD to Orlando but did it by driving this way:

---1st night to Fredericksburg, Va. (leaving after dinner; about 3 hours of driving)
--- then 11 hours the next day to Orlando.

For the return, we drove to Brunswick, Ga. and spent the afternoon and evening enjoying Jekyll Island and then drove the next day home.

We missed every rush hour in every city.

We had 2 adult drivers and two teenagers who did no driving.
