Take I5 all the way. It takes you right along the coast through Newport Beach. Straight through it take 90 minutes to 2 hours depending on what time of the day you are driving. We do lots of stops along the way there and back and make a day trip out of it. We usually do Newport Beach, SeaWorld and In and Out and then drive back to Mimi's for supper.:thumbsup2

Thank you it sounds like a nice drive, we will be driving early afternoon like 2 to get there and then after supper to come back , it depends what time we are done legoland

OOOOH We loved Legoland. The pace is so relaxing and all the trees and benches. If the weather is warm bring swimsuits/water shoes and towells for the water park. My three kids had a blast there!

Uh no, I5 does NOT go through Newport Beach - it isn't even the freeway that's right next to LAX! 405 is the one that goes right by LAX, and it merges with I5 in Orange County near Irvine.

To go through Newport Beach you'll need to get off 405, sorry, but I don't know where.

From LAX to San Diego is ~2 - 2.5 hours, depending on traffic and how fast you drive. You can do it in a bit less than two (driving pretty close to the speed limit) if there's no traffic.

I live in Newport - you'll want to take the 405 from LAX, to the 55 - stay on the 55, it'll turn into Newport Blvd when the freeway ends. Cross a little bridge, and you'll end up on Balboa peninsula - multiple beach accesses, restaurants, bars, etc. When you're done, you can head back to the mainland, and take PCH south - you can hop on the 5 at Capistrano Beach. It's a beautiful drive!
