How is the driving? Is it straight forward? The directions seem pretty simple and straight forward but how are those California Freeways I hear about???

Any comments or suggestions on the drive? I will be driving with my 12 year old DD as my co-pilot!!! LOL!! and we will be arriving at LAX at 10:30 PM (1:30 AM by my clock!!).

Thanks...........

I make the drive from Las Vegas to DL a few times each year and we have never had a problem. As long as you can keep your eyes open, that time of night should be easy driving.

Make sure you have a basic understanding of the directions before you go and maybe write them down clearly on a sheet of paper for your daughter to read. Just watch the signs for freeway changes and you should see a few signs that say Disneyland next Right.

Maybe look up your route with an on line map service (mapquest.com is one I like) and read off a few names of streets that are close to your exit, so you can watch for them. I know as soon as I see Orangethorpe I am VERY close to my happy place.

<font color=navy>At that time of night, driving will be a breeze. The rental cars are a couple of blocks from the airport, so you'll take a shuttle to the car rental. Then once you get going, go south to Imperial Hwy (the car rental place will tell you how to get to the 105 fwy - that's the one you want.

South on Sepulveda to 105 fwy East, or go to Imperial Hwy (which is a street), and turn left - then you'll pass Aviation to get the 105 fwy onramp (btw ... corner of Imperial Hwy & Avation - you'll see Northrop Grumman - that's where I work :) ).

Take 105 east all the way to the end, you'll hit the 605 - go south for a couple of miles & get 91 east. You'll pass Knotts Berry Farm, after you pass Beach Blvd (the street for Knotts), you'll get on the 5 fwy south. About 5 miles down, (you'll pass Lincoln and Euclid) you'll hit Disneyland Drive. If you're staying at a DL Resort Hotel, get off here & turn left, then go straight (follow the signs). If you're staying at a hotel on Harbor Blvd., pass DL Drive to Harbor Blvd, get off & turn right.

105E - 605S - 91E - 5S

A lot easier than it sounds. :sunny:

We took our first trip to the west coast in early December of 2003. We were kinds worried about the driving after seeinf the news etc in LA, but it was no problem at all. The most problems we had was volume. We found the signs marked clearly and we made the drive from Beverly Hills to Anaheim about three times.
Good Luck

My only advice is watch out for the transition onto the 5. After living in California for a decade I finally got to the point where I didn't miss it (well at least not too often). It is easier than any directions will ever sound. Signage is fantastic in California. LAX is not as great. I can't remember if this comes up or not, but know the name as well as the number of the freeways, sometimes they may be labeled one way and not the other.

Thanks for the directions everyone..........we are staying at the Marriott Anaheim and my DD is competing at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Another question............is it easier just to walk over to DL or take a bus then drive from the hotel??

Thanks

Marriot is a fairly long walk but if you are in the mood it's doable. We did it with 6 and 9 yr old boys (but used shuttle back to hotel)
Otherwise take the ART shuttle they pick up right outside the hotel.
Other options is to walk over to the parking structure (walk thru the garden walkways from the convention center- cross the steet) and take the trams from there.

I like the Marriot. The beds were just as comfy as mine at home and we liked the convenience of the Pizza Hut in the lobby.
