We are traveling from Las Vegas to Anaheim on sunday, October 3rd. We decided to go on Sunday to avoid Monday's commute traffic in the LA basin. However, on second thought, I wanted to get some feed back on traffic on Sunday.

Thanks for you help.

Leave before 11 am on Sunday. I think Sunday afternoon traffic is the worst of the week.

Greetings from Vegas! Sorry to say, but Sunday is probably the worst day of the week to travel from Las Vegas to Anaheim. We get alot of visitors from California and they all go home on Sunday! If you must leave on Sunday, get on the road either before 10 am or after 8 pm to avoid the peak traffic times. I used to live in So Cal (about 15 minutes from DL) and I must say I'd take the local CA traffic over the Sunday mess around here anyday.

Not trying to scare you, but I hope this helps.

Live in Vegas also, and Sunday is the absolute worst day next to Friday! A trip that normally takes us just under 4 hours took us almost 6 leaving at 7 p.m. on a Sunday. Much better to deal with the CA traffic than leave Sunday! Good Luck!

Thanks for the information. We are early people anyway. Probably won't leave LV after 9 a.m.

Got to get to DL, you know.

I don't live anywhere close to either Anaheim or Las Vegas, but I've done the drive many times.

I agree with all the other posters. Remember that since both places are relatively close, it's common for those from CA to go to Las Vegas for the weekend, and the other way around. Friday/Sunday are terrible traffic days.

When on the drive keep an eye out for Baker. It makes an interesting rest stop, and you'll be able to see the World's Tallest Thermometer (I know, you're thrilled already) and of course the world-famous Alien Jerky stand.

I'm also doing the Las Vegas to Anaheim drive on Thursday, Sept. 2nd. I wonder how bad it will be. How long does it normally take?? What other things should we stop to look at on the way (or is it all crazy cactus and tumbleweeds????) I'm excited either way!!!

Thursday may not be bad, not sure since it is a holiday weekend! I would definitely leave so that you are not driving into CA right during the rush hours! The drive is not bad, we usually do it in just under or right at4 hours. We like to stop in Barstow at the McDonald's that is inside the train! Have a great trip!

We will be doing to Las Vegas to Anaheim trek in March/April. Any other fun/different places to stop?

Another Vegan here who agrees with the others If you must drive on Sunday, go real early! It can be an amazing site at the amount of traffic heading into Vegas for the weekend and heading home on Sunday. Not so amazing if you are stuck in it.

Any other fun/different places to stop?
The Mad Greek for "World Famous" Greek Food in the middle of the desert and while there visit the world's largest thermometer LOL. There is also
Calico Ghost Town
along the way.
Can't remember the name of it but there is actually a waterpark right next to I-15 in the middle of the desert on the drive over. You also have the outlet malls at Primm,Barstow and stores in Victorville.

Hey guys am looking at planning a trip to the states possible end of next year start of 2006.

we are wanting to do disneyland,San Fran and las vegas.

I 'm pleased to hear it is only a 4 hour drive away, what about a train how far by train?

Also what is easier going from Anaheim to san fran or to san fran from las vegas?

any ideas/tips for me?

thanks guys

Haven't driven between Vegas and San Francisco but Anaheim to San Francisco (or vice versa) can/will be a much more scenic route. Well worth taking a drive up/down the Pacific Coast Highway. There are some great spots to see passing through Santa Monica,Malibu, Santa Barbara,San Luis Obispo,Monterey on up to San Francisco. It can take days to just "scratch the surface"
Here is a bit of Info:

Question for the experts....

How is the drive, usually, from Vegas to Anaheim on a typical Friday?

Since you asked from VEGAS to ANAHEIM on a Friday...it shouldn't be too bad at all. Most people will be going from LA/Orange County to Vegas. You can laugh at the lines of traffic on your way out.

I did the Vegas/Anaheim run a lot a couple of years ago (Mon-Fri in Vegas, Fri-Sun in Anaheim). Did it for a month. As long as you know what you're up against and plan for it, you'll be fine. If going out to Vegas on a weekend, I either try to leave LATE Thursday night or very early Friday morning. Coming back, I usually leave Vegas by 6:30am on Sunday. It's not too bad.

Thank you. I have relatives coming out, and we're going to take them to Vegas on a Wed & come home on Fri. I haven't been there since '92, so I'm sure we'll spend a lot of time looking around. :)

If you get a chance, be sure to catch the Fab Four at the Las Vegas Hilton. They'll be there July 27th - Aug 15th. They're a stunning Beatles tribute band that used to appear frequently at Disneyland and now seems to have repeat engagements at the LV Hilton. Even if you think you weren't a Beatles fan, they'll carry you back...
