Has anyone driven from the Chicago area to Orlando lately? Once into Indiana, I generally take highway 65 south through the state into Kentucky/Tennessee. However, I have been reading a lot about construction that could be severe not only in Indiana but south of Louisville, KY on Highway 65. Any updates?

Has anyone driven Highway/Route 41 (southbound) in Indiana as a southbound alternative to get into the Kentucky/Tennessee region?

Thanks in advance of your replies.

They are doing construction in Lafayette turning 65 into a 4 lane highway, so it can be slow going for a while through there. As of right now they are doing a majority of the work at night. As far as Louisville I'm not sure we are headed that way next week. You can also take 74 through Cincinnati it will take about 20 min longer.

We drove the portion from Louisville south to Nashville a few weeks ago. The is a ton of construction, more than 20+ miles worth, but it was 2 lanes and flowed well. This was around 6:00 PM on a Friday and around 1:00 AM on a Sundaynight/Monday morning.

We live in Gurnee and have driven 57, 65, and the secret 41 route. 57 is longer, no cities to go thru and has a lot of truck traffic and is somewhat boring. I hate 65 as it goes thru Indy and Louisville and always seems to have accidents and or back ups. I have been going 41 for the past 5 years. We go back and forth at least 4 times a year and I greatly favor 41. This route is 30 miles shorter than 65 but takes 10 minutes longer to get to Nashville. You go thru some towns, but the traffic is light and moves along at "posted" speeds. We take 384 to Exchange St and over to 41 S. This gets on 24 at exit 81 and is 65 miles from Nashville. Let me know if you have any questions.

I drive from Bloomington, so a little south of you, but both times we've driven, we took 74 east to Champaign and then dropped down 57 from there. Yes, it's a very boring stretch until after you get out of Illinois but it's very, very easy driving.
