I just got back from a walk with my children which was the same distance as HOJO to DL or vice versa. I think the excitement in the morning will get us there fine but I must admit I am not looking froward to the walk back to the hotel after being on our feet all day at DL. . I am wondering if anyone has tried having a member of the party go back to HOJO to pick up a vehicle and then meet the rest of the party at DL to take them back to the Hotel. Kind of like our own personal taxi service.:) Looking at google earth:3dglasses it looks like there is a little drop off parking area just south of the shuttle drop off point. Is this for this type of drop off/pick up?

Just searching for options to make our trip a little bit more memorable...in a good way! :goodvibes

Can you just grab the ART shuttle back? I think that might be easier. :) Or even a taxi, there are plenty of taxis waiting at the end of the evening.

My DH is already saying that when ds and I are too tired he's going to run back and get the car to pick us up. I'm concerned about the walk too, especially after a long few days at the parks. I imagine we'll be taking DH up on his offer a few times during our stay. LOL

Our plan is to have dh run ahead and get the car to pick us up if needed (like you mentioned). I'm too cheap to do a taxi and dh is too impatient to wait on ART lol.

FWIW We stayed at the Candy Cane Inn and walked it most days. We did have the 4yo in the stroller, but the 6yo walked the whole time.

Where are you planning to meet? Also if you do have him pick you up please post back here how it went and if it worked out ok.

I'm pretty sure on Harbor at the enterance to DL there is a little parking lot off to the side, that you can stay for a limited amount of time. So it's right there, the same place you'd come out of to walk to Hojo's. That's the plan anyway, and I'll for sure post after our trip to let you know how it goes!

Thats my one worry about staying there is walking with my grandma and the kids.... but we were just thinking of taking the ART if it is a long walk for them!

There is a little parking lot next to the entrance on Harbor (right by the crosswalk). But, remember that it's still a fairly long walk from the front gate of either park to get to Harbor. Once you've gone all the down the walkway and reached the crosswalk, it's not all that much farther to reach the hotels on the other side of the street. You can arrange for someone to pick you up if you think the kids can't handle the walk, as long as you're aware that there will still be a good bit of walking involved to reach the car.:)

Yes, there is a pick up area on Harbor. My husband has done the pick up there for us when the kids are too tired or we have too much stuff to bring back to the hotel. I think it would be a great idea to have him go ahead and grab the car.

We have grabbed a cab in this situation before. I wish I could remember how much, I want to say $5-6 . If anyone was to go back to get the car it would be me. Let my DH stay with tired cranky kids and all of the stuff!:rotfl2: Why should he miss out on the part of the joy of parenting! Getting a cab was just so easy and quick. I am budget minded but I place a value on having low stress and simplicity. For a 4 day trip I just budget $30 for possible cab fare. If we don't use it then I can get extra treats in the parks!

Walking to Harbor is pretty much a given where ever you stay. We stayed at the Tropicana last June, and it's right across the street there. But Hojo's is much further down from the Tropicana. That's the part I worry about. Even if you stay onsite you'll have to walk at least the amount that you would to get to Harbor. It's the rest of it that I'm not sure I'll always be up for! ART doesn't really appeal to me either, with the extra cost and it just just needing to take us down the street. Thankfully DH won't have a problem going and grabbing the car for us if we need to!
