We planned on leaving about noon on Wed For our drive to FL. :sad2: The NE is expecting a big storm Tues into Wed. We can leave as early as Tues night, but it doesn't seem like that will help. Any advice? :confused3 I really don't want to leave any later than Wed evening. TIA

Hope that the weather channel is wrong! I sometimes think that they make all the storms an event to get viewers to tune in. Yes, they are a great resource when they're right, but it seems to me like lately it's turned into a cry wolf situation. They're currently predicted 10-15 inches of snow for our area (rt 81/rt 88 intersection), but we could also just get a wintry mix.

They still aren't exactly sure the track of the storm. I'm not sure what route you are taking, but if the storm stays along the coast, could you cut further west so you're not driving from CT through Baltimore in the worst of it. Or it may stay further inland off the coast and I-95 might be the way to go.....Keep your travel plans as flexible as possible...Get the maps out start looking at alternative routes.

How early can you go on Tuesday, can you get a jump on it and head out before it really gets started, Do an overnight, then leave from there a little later in the day on Wednesday......Getting you south of the storm sooner?

I know how frustrating it must be, but I'm not sure I'd risk driving through this storm if it comes through as currently predicted.....

Good Luck with your decision....Have a safe happy trip!:tink:

I just want to wish you good luck! Being from Boston, I know how you feel when these storms come and everyone immediately panics. I would leave Tuesday night if you can...only because the heaviest snow is not supposed to start until 3 am and the further south you can get, the better off you'll be. Just remember....once you are in DW, it will all be a distant memory!!! :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

I'll echo that - if you can leave early afternoon on Tuesday you could get pretty far down before you stop overnight and hopefully be out of the bad weather band. Even if it's not snow, it's going to be rain/sleet, which can be equally as bad. Please be careful. Good luck to you!

I live in the Washington DC area and we are supposed to get 3-6 inches of snow tomorrow (Tuesday) followed by sleet in the afternoon and freezing rain at night. This is what you'd hit coming from CT! Yech.

Judging by the current weather reports, if it were me, I'd stick with the original Wed noon departure, not Tuesday night, which looks pretty bad. That will give the roads a chance to be cleared.

It's 10 am in Baltimore/DC area now. Most of the precip has stopped in our area (Columbia) but our roads are a mess. It will freeze and be hazardous tonight so be careful!!! We hope to be flying out of BWI at 6 pm tonight. Good luck to us all!!!!:grouphug:
