I apologize if this has been asked but I can't seem to find much specific info. We're driving from the Chicago western suburbs the beginning of June to Orlando. It's our first road trip with our kids (18, 14, 7, 5, and 3). We're going to do it in 2 days. I saw the thread on best routes and I wanted to try and get an idea of hotel recommendations in Georgia for the way down and suggestions on where to stop on the way back. We're going to try and make it past Atlanta on the way down. We're stopping at Ruby Falls in Chattanooga along the way. Where do people stop on the way back?

My plan is sort of, "Here's the first stop. If we can get further we'll stay here. If we can get further we'll stay here."

Any recommendations on places to stay or avoid both ways?

Thanks! :thumbsup2

When I've driven from Indiana I always stop in Macon for the night. I've had excellent luck with price and accommodations at the Super 8 there. If you are only needing a decent place to sleep and get going the next morning then they are a great option. It was built in 2010 so it's still in decent shape. Paid just about $50.00 a night online.

The address is 4765 Chambers Rd, I-475 Exit 3, Macon, GA 31206.

Plenty of eating and shopping options right there as well.

We have driven this many times. The best for us has always been Chattanooga both ways. It seems to be about the half way point. We always go to the south side of the city, maybe even a little further past. It has been probably 8 years since we have driven but we left Chicago about 6am and got into Chattanooga just in time for dinner then leave at about 7am and make it to Disney about 4pm.

if your looking to stop in Tennessee murfreesboro is a nice area exit 78
lots of motels & restaurants as well as a walmart you can stop at the welcome center when you enter the state and pick up a hotel coupon book that will help with a few dollars i stop just passed macon in georgia only because we like the ride on day 2 to be shorter

I second this.

We always stay at the Best Western Chaffin Inn in Murfreesboro on the way home. It’s convenient, there are a lot of stores and all types of restaurants nearby. The rooms are clean and nice. We always request the same room which is on the end right near the highway and we never hear any noise inside the room. The furniture is updated and beds are very comfy. And they have a really nice complimentary continental breakfast in the morning.

Our way down is always different. We take a few days and make it part of our vacation, but if you just want to overnight I suggest getting past Atlanta. It will make arrival day shorter and less of a headache since you have already dealt with Atlanta traffic! :woohoo:

We are making this same trip at the end of June...Northern Burbs down with a 5 and 1 y.o EEK! Can I ask for a link to the topic of best routes OP? I haven't come across it.

Leaving from far SW burb, like to stay in the Country Inn and Suite in either Gainesville or Ocala firt night, one the way home we will spend a good part of the day in a park, leave around 4 and get to the Country Inn in Cordele, GA, new location thats an easy on and off..

If you're traveling the weekend of the 9th, book ahead for anything around Nashville. There's some big to-do happening in the city and rooms at decently rated hotels are at a premium.

We're driving down from the southern suburbs during the same time frame. We're staying in Chattanooga the first night. I was planning a visit to Ruby Falls as well, but after reading some reviews I'm on the fence about it.

We stay two nights on the road on the way down so we're not starting our vacation exhausted. Second night will be in Gainesville.

I am traveling from Northern Indiana and made reservation in Macon, Ga at a Best Western just off 475.
