I'm driving down from the Philly area in a few weeks. I'm going to try to drive all the way in one day. Does anyone have any hotel recommendations for one night with a good cancellation policy (in case we don't make it)? I was debating on adding a night on at pop, but if we don't make it we lose the money. If you drove from around Philly, how did it go for you?

Most hotels allow you to cancel up till 5:00 or 6:00 pm the day of arrival without penalty. Just check to be sure when you book.

We stopped in Savannah on our drive down and its only about 5 hours from there to WDW the next morning.

We just head out early in the day and go as far as we can . . . for us that's usually around the SC/GA border. All the rest stops have motel coupon booklets . . . typically we get them and when we figure we have about an hour of safe driving in us we pick a town and call motels to see whether they have vacancies at the coupon rate.

There are many many chain motels off 95. We have never had a problem just pulling up to one and getting a room for the night. We've done the rest stop coupon thing, but i like to see the place before I commit myself. If i am traveling alone with the kids or with just a girlfriend, for safety reasons, i like to have a room that opens to and interior hall and not directly to the outside.

We did Philly to Disney this past summer, and stayed in Savannah at a Marriott off of 95 (search Marriott 95 South). At this exit, there are several hotels and a few restaurants, including a Cracker Barrell (which are everywhere along 95). We arrived around 8 pm (left our house at 7 am, stopped in Virginia for lunch for an hour and had a few bathroom breaks along the way.) The Marriott was nice and clean, had ample room for the 5 of us and had a mini-fridge for me to store our cooler contents and refreeze our ice packs. We only paid about $90 for the night.

On our way home, we stopped in Hilton Head.

This year, we are flying. ;) Flights on Frontier out of Trenton are probably just as cheap as gas for the trip.

FWIW, though, our neighbors drive every year and do it without stopping with three young kids. They say they make it in about 15 hours from door to door, but we think 16-17 hours is more what it would take us to do it in one shot with a break for a meal and a few other stops.

Never again for me, but good luck!

We have made the drive from King of Prussia several times. We leave at 3 am and we are on property by dinner time. Next time we drive, we'll probably stop at the Hampton Inn in Jacksonville. It's $90 a night w/ a cancellable rate. It is right across from the Dave & Busters. As long as you can get through DC before rush hour, you'll be fine.
