Mapquest stinks!!!! what are some good ones?

I hate mapquest!!! I have HORRIBLE sense of directions to begin with but it seems i get more lost using mapquest. I have begun using Google maps, and so far haven't had as much of a problem than with mapquest..just gets tricky knowing not to expect to actually turn when it says "bear right" and "slight right"...my mind immediately scans for a street or a traffic light to turn at, when in fact I missed the "bear right" or actually beared right miles back without knowing!

Example of my lack of directional sense:

I work in NYC (started a month ago) and commute via NJ transit train. Well I've gotten lost about 6 times walking to work, or taking the subway back to my office after a meeting at another office with the firm. Last week, I decide to walk up 5th avenue instead of madison as a change of scenery..well here I am with my ipod minding my business when a bunch of tourists ask me for directions..I felt so bad and had to tell them I'm probably worse off in here than they are! So then I'm walking..and walking..and thinking 'hmm this is a far walk from the train station' ' (when i do the same walk every day) but I didn't think anything of and just thought I was tired. Well I get to the street and turn right to walk over to madison...but I couldn't find my office and then realized I walked 10 blocks too far uptown!

Long story short, I'm terrible with directions and any little bit from google helps!

:goodvibes

I use the handy ATLAS for all major routes and then I usually look for a street map for any in city routes I may need. DH is a truck driver so he taught me how to read and use a map.

I don't rely on mapquest, I have heard friends tell me how bad there directions can sometimes be...

Just curious, what do you not like about MapQuest? That's all I use, and so far it has worked great for me.

The only other one I have tried is Yahoo Maps, but I keep going back to MapQuest.

GoogleMaps, or some such spelling is faily good. I too have had mixed results with MapQuest, the worst (best??) one was when I was checking what a drive from Seattle to Orlando would entail and MapQuest had me drive NORTH into Canada, drive east to Nova Scotia, and then south to Florida. I think the drive time was 18 days.

Yahoo maps or the navigation system in the dash of my Hummer.

I love mapquest and use it all the time. Maybe they're sending me all over the place and I just don't know it. :confused3

Now, AAA triptiks totally confuse me. I find them frustrating to understand and I don't like all the flipping of pages to get through my trip.

My husband has a navigation system in his car. It is extremely reliable EXCEPT when we use it in Boston. For some reason, it doesn't get us where we want to go and keeps telling us we're off the specified route even we aren't. I think Boston changes their signs and traffic patterns every few hours just to confuse us. :rotfl2:

Let's see. I have a road atlas, I have state maps, I have AAA trip tiks, and I have mapquest.
I am getting to where I want to go, one way or another lol.

I always compare mapquest and randmcnally.

HA! And that is exactly were we need it for Boston. The road change everyday, the exits blocked and re-routed, add mapquest to that and you'll NEVER get there :rotfl:

OMG...you people all use maps???!!! :bitelip: LANDMARKS are the only way to go! :rotfl:
