Driving Around Indianapolis

Hi Indiana friends,
I will be driving around Indy coming in on Interstate 74 and taking 465 South around the city.I will hook up with Interstate 70 East. I don't want to take 70 through the city, so I will take 465 S. all the way around to hook up with 70.
Is there any good time to drive around Indy?

Truthfully I've taken the drive from 65 to 70 east quite a bit and when going home, I just take 70 through the city. Unless you are going during peak traffic (morning or evening rush) it isn't bad at all. Just avoid mornings from about 7:30-9 am and evenings around quitting time. I've skated through at various other hours (week day and not) and never had much traffic at all.

Because taking 465 all the way around is a lot longer trip. Like Helenabear said, avoid rush hours and you'll be fine.

Thanks for the quick responses. I thought it might be easier to get around Indy rather than drive through it. We don't experience alot of traffic in our area. I thought it would be alittle less of a headache.

I agree. traffic is, relative to other cities our size, rarely impossible here. Avoid rush hour and you'll save time going straight through town.

If you take 70 through town, watch the signs and lane changes. The interchanges downtown with I-65 are a bit "non-standard".

I live here and I'm used to the highways, but in my opinion, 70 is just as easy and a lot shorter.
What time were you planning on heading through?

As mentioned, 70 thru Indy is much shorter than 465 and not bad at all, except for rush hours. There should be no problems from 9 am to 3 pm and after 6 pm.
