Driving an RV to WDW

We have rented a 36' RV to drive to Disney from Houston this year from Dec. 29th to Jan 6. We are going to be staying off site at a vacation home since we have a very large group (10 adults, 3 kids). We opted to rent the RV rather that drive in a couple of vans since we have small children with us. We though that the ride would be easier on them in an RV and we also thought that when the kids get tired at the parks, we can always come back out to the RV, crank up the generators, and let the kiddos take a nap or have lunch without having to actually leave WDW property. We are new to RV'ing so I have quite a few questions....hope you guys can help out!

How much does is cost to park an RV at the parks? Are there size or any other restrictions?

How early do the parks actually let you in to the parking lots. I am assuming that RV parking is probably more limited than regular parking and that we will have to get there early to ensure a parking space at this time of year.

When the kids get tired, will it be acceptable for us to go back out to the RV and start the generators for the air conditioning and such?

With such a large group, some of the young adults are going to want to stay much later. When they get ready to depart, are taxis readily available at all of the parks? Are cab fares outrageous in FL?

Any other tips that you guys want to throw my way, feel free! Thanks!

Depending on the park, you will most likely be parking in the same parking lot as if you were driving a car. Only difference is that they will have you park at the very end of the row, so that you'll be able to easily exit the lot, even when other cars are there. There's also always the chance they might send you to the charter bus lot to park.

You are more than welcome to head back there during the day, and do whatever you wish.

I beleive the daily parking charge is $12. (Same rules apply... you can show the pass, and park hop and not pay again for parking)


On a side note... PLEASE use caution when driving on property. As someone who drives 35-40' vehicles on a daily basis, I can assure you, you will encounter many crazy tourist drivers out there. Moreso than the average roadway. It's easy enough to be prepared in a regular car, and whatnot... but a larger vehicle makes it harder.





Taxi's will be readily available at park close. They'll be waiting for you. I'd recommend going with Checker Cab (Mears, offical cab of Disney), as they are less likely to scam, and are fully insured. (some independant cab companies may be decent, and fully insured, but a lot arent)

Cab rates are not exactly cheap around here.

Have you checked with the rental home company to make sure that you are allowed to park an RV in the driveway? There are many communities in the Kissimmee/Orlando area that do not allow them to be parked in driveways or on the street.

Yes, I did check with the property management company. Actually....you're right, most do not let you. After quite a bit of searching, I finally found a company that would allow this size RV park in the driveway at the rental home.
