We live in NC and my hubby was thinking of driving all night but was wondering once he gets there how can he sleep if check in isn't until 3 at most hotels? Any suggestions for someone who has done this?

I've stayed on property several times and we always fly in first thing in the morning....I've always gotten a room right away....guess I've been lucky.

We often drive from CT to Ft Myers straight through. My suggestion is to stay awake. That way, you just go to bed at the regular time and wake up the next day ready to go - and on the same time schedule. If he sleeps during the day, it may be very difficult to get back to a normal sleep schedule. The last time we did the drive, we left at around 7 pm and got to Ft. Myers at about 6 pm the next day - showered, had dinner, hung out for a while and went to bed at 9 pm. Woke up the next day just like any other day.

There were 2 of us driving - we did try to cat nap in the van, but really got very little sleep on the road. Just make sure you have something planned to do when you get there to keep him awake!

On the other hand, you may be able to check in early - lots of times they do have rooms ready, but I wouldn't count on that.

That situation truly stinks. We've had it happen to us a few years back at WL, where our room wasn't ready til after 3:00 p.m., and that was only after I spoke to the front desk about check in times.

On average, you'd be looking at a drive between 8 and 9 hours. An 'all nighter' alternative we've used recently is to get to bed early, get up and leave about 3:00 a.m., and arrive WDW by noon. That way, you get some sleep for that night.

He can always catch a power nap at one of the park attractions (I recommend Hall of Presidents in MK and the American Adventure in Epcot). Other than that, I am out of ideas. Maybe others can help.

If you do online check-in, you can indicate what time you are arriving; they try to accommodate you if they can.

I have always gone to POR; arrived around 10:30 am and my room is always been available.

However, if you stay at a DVC property, they don't start issuing rooms until 3:00 pm. That is a standard policy.

Instead of an All nighter, we normally leave around 2 AM to arrive at Disney between 3-4 PM. That gives 4-5 hours of sleep before leaving home and another hour or 2 while napping when the wife is driving.
