We have drove to WDW twice, I believe I HATED it!! But I really want to take a trip in mid fall and feel I could save money if we just drove our own car. I figure I can cut almost $500 off the budget. That's after I figure back in gas and travel hotels.

So tell me, how do you get yourself psyched for that long drive??? For us it's about 19-22 hrs depending on traffic and construction.

Don't forget to figure in the cost of your time. I work full time so I calculate what my salary breaks down to hourly and price in 12 hours travel time. It takes about 20-22 hours (roundtrip) but I subtract out the time I spend in air travel. That doesn't even take into consideration how tired I am at the end of the day driving. You also need to add in the wear on your auto and the impact of the increased mileage on your vehicle. All of these factors give you a more realistic view of the hidden costs of driving. I'd drive only if I couldn't get a great airfare and could go no other way. I never feel the need to rent a car when visiting WDW or US/IOA because I rarely leave the premises but I do add back the cost of my transportation from the airport to the resort.

I know lots of folks like the road trip but when I'm on vacation I don't want to work that hard. I've driven many times and find it easy to get excited for the trip down. It's the trip home I've never been able to get excited about!

Whatever you finally figure out I hope you have a great trip.

Well,

I am driving down in 17 days. for a couple reasons...

1. I am afraid to Fly i have to work on my courage and bravery by next summer so i can go to DL. (ahhhhhh!!!!)

2. I love love love road trips.

3. I have a pretty new car (gotta try it out)

4. While it is a very long drive pretty close to what you have my mom had back surgery and back problems. This way we can take many many breaks.. she can stretch out in the back and We get 4 travel days to "connect"

While money wise it would be cheaper to fly...personally it gives me something more then a $$ discount time with my mom alone just us to just be together .

I will let you know how it goes when i get back...now just to figure out how to fit all our junk into my car...staying at the cabins so won't need the kitchen sink this time...lol

Good luck deciding

Amy
