We live on the South Shore, and work locally, so neither DH nor I travel on toll roads in our everyday life. We've never needed the EZpass. I am thinking of getting one because we drive to Disney, and it will just be much easier to load it up with money ahead of time, and not have to worry about stopping at the tolls, and having enough change, ect.

Do all the states that 95 goes through accept EZPASS?

Thanks for that link. It's very helpful, although DH swear we get hit with a toll going south on the GW bridge.

So, if we get the FastLane pass, we can use it all the way down. (FastLane is good through VA)

I think this will be much more convenient.

I have a Fastpass and live in MA and I drive down to VA, CT and points south a lot and you can use your Fastpass all the way to GA but not in FL (different system). You will pay a toll on GW in NY on your way home but not going down. You will also pay a toll in the tunnel in Baltimore both ways. You will also need it for the Delaware bridge both ways. It is a good investment to have if you are driving because the tolls can back up when you are paying cash.

Just a tip when you use it in NJ if you don't have it mounted to your windshield remember to hold it up before you reach the tolls because you dont drive through a toll like on the MA Pike its more you just continue on the highway and drive under the sensors. There are signs telling you when the tolls are coming up. I forgot to do this the first time I did it :upsidedow

HTH!

It think people are saying is yes some of the states that I-95 pass through do use EZ Pass, but I-95 isn't a toll rod in those states. Also FL does not use EZ pass but again I-95 to I-4 to WDW there are no tolls.

I used it driving from MA to TN and MANY times from MA to NJ or MA to PA. It is a great timesaver and very convenient. Just save yourself the inconvenience and mount it. I also have mine linked to my checking account so when the account hits $10 it will take another $10 out so I always have money for the tolls. I really love it. The pass itself is free. I actually had two sent. One for my car and one for DH's. I would highly recommend it.

It is free to leave NY but you have to pay to get back in.
All Hudson River Crossings have no tolls crossing east to west... NY to NJ or Westchest - Rockland county on the Tappan Zee. I think this is the case all the way up the Hudson at any crossing until at least I84. There is no way to sneak back across the Hudson without paying.

As I said on a similar post, yesterday, you can use your E-Z Pass along I-95 all the way to Baltimore.

Assuming you are going the I-95/I-4 route, you won't encounter any more tolls after you pass through the tunnel in Baltimore.

However, if you plan to use the Florida tollways for any other reason, your E-Z Pass is not compatible with Florida's systems (so plan to use cash for those roads).

EZ Pass is great! Of course we're on the MassPike, so use it pretty regularly. But given the time savings (and the toll savings at the Allston tolls for us), and the fact that the transponders are now free, I have been wondering why so many folks with Mass plates are backed up at the cash tolls. We use ours to go to Grandma's in Maine pretty regularly, and now in NH you can go thru at 60 mph (love the no slowing down business).

Bus for a drive down the east coast like you're doing, I would definately recommend it. You might want to think of getting it from a toll-road authority you might be using regularly that might give a discount for transponder use. We have both the FastLane pass for Mass, but also an EZ Pass for Maine which gives a discount at the York tolls on the Maine Turnpike (what we refer to as the "Getting out of Maine Tax"). I think some of the states along the way offer a discount for using the local EZ pass, which might be worth getting your EZ pass from them instead of Mass.

I assume the OP will be hopping on 95 thru RI and CT, but if you can get off of 95 in that stretch of CT heading in to NY, it'll make driving more pleasant. We like the Merrit Parkway for pleasant and pretty driving, while the parallel stretch of 95 is ugly and full of trucks. Also during any sort of busy time (any time but late at night, basically), we have usually found that we save time looping up to the Tappan Zee bridge rather than the George Washington.

Have fun!
