How bad will he drive be from Kissimmee to USO on March 15 & 16 (Mon. and Tues.)? We got a suite at the Homewood Suites, Kissimmee, for $62/nite with tax. Traveling with 2 kids and a night owl husband, so we need a true suite at a good price for 2 nights only.

Thanks.

Depending as to what time you leave. If it is during rush hour 7 am - 9 am it can take upwards to an hour. If it is non-rush hour 15 min.

Thanks! Sounds like we might need to stay closer. I'll be checking periodically for deals closer to USO.

I recommend a hotel around Kirkman Rd. We have stayed at three different hotels: AmeriSuites Universal, Fairfield Inn Universal, and the Best Western. All are VERY close to Universal Studios and are conveniently located (24 hour Walgreens nearby, a Burger King, Denny's and other restaurants. Short drive from a WalMart, etc). Out of the three, I believe the Best Western was the least expensive. My mom got a great deal from hotelkingdom.com. I don't recommend AmeriSuites, though. The room I stayed in...the sink was right in front of the beds -- a complete lack of privacy -- YUCK. Beds weren't comfortable either.

We've been pleased with both Fairfield and Best Western. The rooms are nothing spectacular, but we spent most of our times away from the hotel room anyway!

You'll have to drive to Universal from all of them (even if they say they are "across the street")...but it's maybe a 5 minute drive, since they are NOT kidding about the "across the street." It's just the "street" is a VERY busy road.

Good luck!

Keep checking. You may be able to get comparable rates on International Drive.

Thanks, guys. The information is always great here. I visited the Disboards off and on before our trip to WDW a couple of years ago, and it helped so much. I'm hoping we'll enjoy USO as much!

I think the one-hour estimate is excessive. It shouldn't take anywhere near that long, even in rush hour.

Kelly I guess you haven't dealt with an accident during rush hour then. The traffic barely moves from the people trying to see what happened even though it is a very minor fender bender.

hi  remeber me?!

i stayed at Holiday Inn accross the street from Universal and walked there and back a couple of times during our stay

Last time we went (in 1999) we barely touched the I4. We stayed in Lake Buena Vista and used the 'sneak route' up Appopka Vineland Rd to Sand Lake Rd - then along Sand Lake Rd to Turkey Lake Rd where Universal is signposted. It avoided the I4 completely and we had no problems with traffic even \at the busiest times!!! Check it out on 'Mapquest.com' and you'll se the route I mean. It may not be as direct as the I4 but we did it from LBV to Universal in about 15 mins!!! :)

If you are in Kissimmee and near SR 535 take SR 535 North, pass the entrance to the Disney Village and make a right on to Palm Parkway (Olive Garden is on the right). You will want to cross Sand Lake Rd. and keep going North toward the park. Use the entrance off of Turkey Lake Rd. (across from Dr. Phillips High School). You will avoid I-4 totally.
